this is for my mum's kitchen. We were wondering about painting the wall between kitchen and dining room a warm colour. with the other walls an off white.

The kitchen remains in a gloss cream and the new island in the middle is the red you can see next to the floor tile and work top.

where the small window is, is now a patio door.

any ideas would be great. We tried dove grey, pale twine and soft natural.

but thinking maybe it should be a warmer colour? She's pretty desperate for help. pleeeaaaase! 😊

I personally would paint the back wall with the clock a darkish green, with a bit of yellow: basically khaki. Would bring the outside in, and such a warm colour which would go well with your lovely new floor, blond wood and your light shade! The rest of the walls could be painted a warm white...

@sonia yes we are south facing. it's how it would look behind the kitchen cupboards, which are grey gloss. I think it looks fab all round but they have a divider between kitchen and dining area. I had wondered about doing 2 walls the wall opposite the windows (which extends to the tall bank of cupboards but doesn't have too much wall so you wouldn't have too much of a problem if it doesn't quite work and then use shadow white for the patio wall side. my mum reckons that won't work as you don't normally do 2 adjoining feature walls.

I would have the table against the wall (opposite window) with either a bench of built in seating, this way you could have space for a chair / sofa on the opposite aide. If you used a bench, you could then put the table centrally for occasions (xmas etc). I think a central feature light would still work with wall lights to table area.

Dear Fearn, I believe you are doing the right thing by opening up the dining room and living room. This will allow the double aspect to maximise on the natural daylight and give you more options to play with colour. I am a big fan of green and believe it has been very underestimated in the past, however it is coming back into fashion! Calke Green is beautiful, I believe it would work very well for a dining room, making it inviting and cosy. Do bear in mind though that colours come out darker once they are on the wall than originally anticipated. Before you make your final decision, I would try samples of the colour on each wall so you see the colour in different lights and throughout the day and evening. I would also try at least a couple of other colours such as Cooking Apple Green, Vert de Terre or Lichen. For the woodwork, it depends what effect you want to achieve, for instance if you want to close the room in to make it more cosy, I would paint it all the same colour, otherwise I find Wimborne White is always a winner and I use it a lot, it has a very warm creamy hue and is very versatile, it could be an alternative to Slipper Satin which could perhaps be a bit stark, however it is difficult to judge without being in the space.
