Kitchen window: opening upwards or shorter bifold

Thinking of creating this opening in my kitchen window. Has anybody done this ? Does having the sink splash onto your window drive you mad?
Is the first image (upward opening) done in the UK? Is it gas straps?
Any window suppliers want to quote me for either option? We are in south London.
Last photo is of kitchen window as it is currently. Dimensions 232 x 100cm. I'm short so hate not being able to reach to open window or not seeing the kids in the garden properly.

What a great idea! I know my kids would love eating at the outside counter in summer! I love it with folding window... the lift up ones might be too “caravan-ey” for me though...
Yes, any window would get splashed a bit... but so would any splash back. It just shows more on windows. Just have a vinegar spray handy, to have a quick wipe when needed!

Hello Shai, I agree with the consensus that sliding would be a better fit. Can I suggest that the as this will reduce the physical opening, the wall and window adjacent are changed into a solid window and the sliding door then passes in front to retain the opening. If needed a steel post could be installed next to the fixed glass frame to support the cantilever. Has the glazed area reached 25% of the floor area? It's very difficult to tell from the drawings provided. If it has I'm sure your architect has advised you how this will be mitigated. Best wishes Andrew

I’m getting an ultraline sliding door fitted in our new extension in a few weeks. 2.4 high x 4.4 wide. The frames are 20mm. It’s about £10k and I can’t remember off the top of my head whether that includes VAT (probably not unfortunately). But our number one goal with our extension is to connect our living space to our garden, so it feels right to prioritise budget for it. You don’t need a local company necessarily as national companies will have local agents who have product in their showrooms. This has been tricky over the last few months but we also looked at local friends’ houses last summer, where they had installed various different brands of sliders and bifolds, and were able to get a good feel for them from their gardens! I'd find out what thickness of beam would you fit, and what sized doors you'd be able to install based on that, it could be that you could brick up 20cm each end, eg then have 380cm sliding door width. We have a 2 pane 350cm wide slider, ceiling height same as yours. Go for slider if you want better view, bifold only if you'll ever get chance to open them most of the year.

Snug/entrance - will enter the house in the right. View also of the pitched roof - tricky with pendants? Waste pipe and beam will obviously be boxed in but the stone pillar will be exposed stone

Thanks Origin. Do you make the first type of window? the one that opens upwards (or caravan-style as Emmanuelle aptly called it)?

We do also offer top hung windows which act in the same way as what you are after above as well as the bi-folding window. I'd recommend getting in touch with your local supplier as they can give you the relevant information regarding sizing and window types along with a free quote if required.
