Design Dilemma Kitchens

Help with size for 4 seater kitchen island

For a 4 seat kitchen island (with the seats at one end of the island (2 seats facing the other 2 seats) what is the minimal size this could be to include some units at the other end? Depth and width please. I hope this makes sense. Thanks

60cm pp, so 240 width plus side panels/units. And for depth add 35-40cms to your unit depth, so about 100cms. Aisles are just as important, a minimum of 95cms on the 'work-side' and at least 90 to walk plus 35 for your seats on the other side.

Not due if you mean you want an island like this? 120 cm wide, 120cm length would be needed minimum just for the seating area side. That's assuming you would use a 60cm wide base unit in middle opening at side. Never saw anything like that to be honest. If you have island with seating on both sides you would need almost 2 m gap behind it if you were having units behind it so you could get by if someone was sitting at island

thanks I won't be able to go as long as 2800, 2400 would probably be too long and impact on the other seating area but 2200 is ideal, also Im allowing 1m for depth as I was told that u need 300mm to sit comfortably. my only concern is how the island will look if the drawers are only 600mm deep with an overhang of 300mm on the far side prefer it when it looks more filled in but then I can't fit 3/4 stools around the island ie 3 on the length and 1 on the far end. any suggestions.

Mine was an 800 before I removed the glass - the main fan section is smaller of course so I presume that it’s the actual canopy that makes the difference ie if the extractor canopy is 800 with an 800 hob then most of the steam that rises, should hit the top of the canopy and be drawn towards the extractor. Even though we removed the glass on ours, it will be set into a suspended wood canopy so in effect, the steam should do the same thing. I’m told induction hobs are super steamy, ha ha. We got a Neff extractor which is also v quiet so hoping it does the trick!

A couple of thoughts on the design that may help you replan...... There seems to be very little counter space between your hob and sink, once you set dirty dishes on one side and clean on the other, where will you prep? Perhaps you could put the hob in your island? Or move it or the sink to the other wall? It’s worth considering a change from your wall oven to fitting one (or two) under the counter one. You’ll get back the worktop space, and thus could easily move your fridge next to the pantry. We opted for two full size Neff slide and hide door ovens under our counters , one regular oven, one steam oven, with our hob directly above them and it’s one of the best decisions I made. I have the ergonomic and space benefits of a range cooker, but superior capacity and functionality for my needs. An induction hob not only looks sleeker, but effectively gains you work space too. You can stick a cookbook / chopping board/ etc directly next to your pot while cooking and it will be fine. Karen from One Plan is terrific and will draw you a proper well thought out plan. Alternatively a virtual planning appointment with Ikea will also result in a plan, and unlike Howdens, an actual price, too. Both companies work in standard cm dimensions....a 40cm wide cabinet is a 40cm cabinet is a 40cm cabinet. (One difference is depth and height.... Ikea units are a little bit deeper, and a little bit taller, so they have a little bit more capacity). Hope that helps.

Thanks Minnie - actually thats an interesting perspective. Yes _ as when I sell I'll convert it back to a 2 bed so that developed space will need to be living space as well as kitchen/diner as the current lounge will be the second bedroom. . I like the idea of the table on that wall and can be counter top space when cooking if needed.That also gives space for cosy sofa., not the small one I was trying to fit in. The courtyard won;t be covered but I have a patio and 38 foot garden with furniture on so that covers that. Thank you!

Given two adults sharing a bed would have a 135cm wide double bed (150cm king size) I think the table should be at least as wide.
As far as depth tables vary from 80cm upwards. Personally I think 90cm would be the minimum

Sorry I overlooked the 2 x 2 opposite seat part. I guess posting your entire kitchen layout and size would help, as this kind of seating requires quite a bit of space.
