living room furnishing help, advise

Hello,

I am looking for any ideas for furnishing our living room. We are after dining, sitting and kind of office area under stairs bay, please see attached drawing. I just can't figure out how to divide it with furniture (sofa, chairs, coffee and dining table, etc..)

have been thinking about dividing long wall with fake standing out wall for TV and electric fire place.

Hi. i dont think the room is long enough to divide it. Are you using existing furnishings as we would need to know the size. It would also be useful to see/know dimensions of the radiator on the left wall and whether the desk area will be used frequently. In any case I think I would put in a window seat and have the table in front of that (with ventilation holes for the radiator)

You have a lovely home to work with. I would say don't underestimate mirrors for making a room look twice as big. Have you considered giant mirrors, or mirroring an entire wall? How about the curved wall? I would pay attention to lighting also, as great lighting can make your home look a million dollars and more spacious. I would make a focal point with television resting on a gorgeous storage cabinet, place wall picture frames on wall where tv is placed, this will draw attention to the art and cabinet rather than the tv itself. I would get highback armchairs and use them for both dining and lounge seating with a sofa. I like those Victorian card tables on wheels, that fold up, multipurpose. Only buy furniture you absolutely love, don't follow trends, follow your heart, after all you want to feel good at home. Don't be half-hearted follow your dreams, be confident. When you fully execute your interior passion you'll be happy and others who come to your home will sense you and credit your style as being authentic, true to you and they will love it as much as they love you.

Guys, please help!! Is it just me so something is still off??..is everything too bland...? Today we have received our rug and some other accessories.. and it seems that cushions and a throw are too much, so will return those...and will use light purple throw. But for some reason I have a feeling that something isn't just right..have I gone completely mad?.. Please let me know what you think of this..! And apologies about the dog, he just loves being in a centre of everything :) thank you!!!!

In some ways it’s good to have such a large TV. Let’s face it you are sitting a very long way from it in your lovely big room! You are wondering how to make the door end of the room look used. I think we are talking trade offs with the design here, in terms of cost and layout. If you can spend a bit of money it might be worth investigating how to design a new fireplace that incorporates the TV. Sounds horrendous I know, but because you have a large tv it might work, though you’d have to be VERY careful about balance in the positioning and get specialist advice on insulating the tv from the heat from the fire. You also need to consider how much time you spend watching tv and if the upwards angle of view might give you a stiff neck from where you place the sofa...BUT... this would enable you to bring Carolina’s room layout back towards the door, making the room look more occupied, you could then also use celery girls idea to put a sort of separate more intimate seating area in the bay window - two statement chairs and a little table, maybe flanked by a pair of enormous table lamps in front of the curtains to fill the corners and highlight the curtains at night.

Have you considered a bio-ethanol fireplace? They're great alternatives to wood burners and electric fires because they offer a real fire but with sustainable fuel and no instillation or soot or indoor air pollution etc.
