Grout colour for wood effect porcelain tiles

Hi, I wondered if someone could help. We are having wood effect tiles (Longmore Natural Tile from Topps Tiles) put into our large kitchen / family room - I am only mentioning that it is a large room because I think given the size of the room, it's really important to get the grout colour right. I am really struggling with choosing the right grout colour. I want it to look as much like wood as possible so am not keen on the grey tones that the guys in the shop recommended. What have others used? The photo below shows the tiles with a light grout colour but i wonder if that makes it very obvious that they are not wood tiles?

I think I’d be tempted to colour Match a mid tone from that tile instead .

I think it all depends on the look that you are going for - with these tiles, I too would be tempted to colour match as closely as you could, however it also depends on the style and wider context of the house.
I have a Victorian house and old battered boards in our living room - they have gaps between the boards which effectively almost look black. When we did wood effect tiles in our en-suite, I bought similar coloured tiles and then used a dark anthracite grout to get the same effect as the living room. However the tiles you have chosen are a different style - they’re a lovely fresh contemporary wood effect compared to my old battered boards, so a more neutral colour that blends in would look fab!

Hi I'm in the process of buying a property which has wood effect tiles too in the kitchen and hall. I have opted to have Karndean flooring in my lounge which also opens up to the garden so I didn't want carpet. They come in many styles so maybe have a look at these? I have chosen one around £25per sq m which is the cheapest range. They are basically VInyl planks that get glued to your floor. Easy to clean and you don't have to worry about water warping the planks. Hope his helps

Hi Iveta Evans, We have a range of Italian Wood effect Porcelain which may be of interest. Not quite as large as you are looking for (905x200mm) but they look great and really realistic. Our Reclaimed Oak may be of interest, they are a darker grey colour but lots of warm undertones. They are suitable for both internal and external use. Good evening Iveta, even we are not based on your area we would love to help find you a solution for your extension and outdoor space. There are multiple options for what you need but first of all there are a few questions to ask. 1. What are you hoping to install the tiles on externally? 2. Do you need a grip finish (advisable with children or if there is chance for build up on the tiles) 3. Are you looking for a 10mm internal and 20mm external tile? Has anyone used porcelain wood effect tiles in the shower?

Hi Suzanne, yes, I have done this, but sadly can’t find a photograph of it! it was in a new build in a long narrow room where the shower was at the end so I tiled the whole floor including the shower try and carried the tiles up the back wall of the shower, it worked really well as the ’planks’ added visual width to the room.

Are the edges rectified? If so, they can have really thin gaps, if not the gap will be more obvious. I agree with OnePlan choose a mid tone grout, but the colour needs to relate to the tile. If there is no grey in the tile I wouldn't choose a grey grout. You are likely to need a 'greige' but this may be dependent on what Topps have to offer.

If the tiles are rectified the you can get really tight grout joints, I would recommend looking at some wood colour grout options and try to match the main colour in the tile. I have oak effect tiles and have Ardex grout in Gentle Dawn colour which matches well. It’s a sort of pale tan with a bit of a grey tone but definitely not a grey.

Large builders merchants and some tile shops will have sample colour sticks of grout from Mapei and Ardex, it’s worth taking a tile sample to compare directly against the grout samples as there’s a big variation in wood tile tones so it’s hard to recommend something for your specific tile.

And yes agree you want a match or slightly darker not light like in the pic! Although in my house that grout would get dark pretty quickly anyway...
