Spare bedroom help required!

Hi all!

Hoping you can help.

Trying to figure out what to do with our spare room - we have recently gotten rid of the double bed as it was far too big. I would like to replace it with a sofa bed to save space but still give guests somewhere to sleep however we can’t currently afford to lovey Ikea one we want so we found an alternative on Gumtree. I ideally would like it under the window but the sofa bed will only fit against the wall the mattress (which is also going!) is currently propped up against. I’m not sure I love the idea of the door opening into the bed though?

We will primarily be using the room for storage & laundry at other times.

Ive attached photos of the room in it’s current (messy!) state as well as what it was before we bought the house (a small double behind the door) & the sofa bed we are planning on getting from Gumtree.

Any thoughts you have would be much appreciated! I could also possibly get floor plans if that would be helpful.

I'd get a shorter, alternative sofa bed, the kind that opens out lengthways. Like the one I am attempting to give away on freecycle currently :-) And put it under the window. As you're planning to use the room for storage and laundry I'd plan a floor to ceiling range of cupboards where the mattress is, so it can be all stored away. I'm a recent convert to the joys of pax wardrobes. Theyre modular and great for all kinds of storage.

Thanks so much - I absolutely love those colours and the idea of name above crib! A cot will fit in the recess but I think I prob prefer it at the end of the bed so I can easily peek in. To be honest whilst I want to paint etc, we know the furniture is fairly short term. We have some older relatives who live further afield and I want them to have a comfy bed to stay in for the time being since baby will be in with us for a while - we know that in a years time we're prob looking at converting the garage into a spare bed though just no time/money to do that at mo - but def want babba to have run of the nursery and lots of floor space once they're crawling! As for the bedsides they are actually holding everything baby related clothes wise at the mo as no wardrobe in there I was thinking about adding some picture ledges between the windows too for outward facing books to add something to the walls and maybe vintage animal a-z flash cards above the head of the bed?

Pictures on the walls definitely. One between windows and another behind bed. I think you could keep the neutral theme, but add more textures, like a fluffy cream rug and more dressings/cushions on the bed - maybe a chunky knit, or an arran throw. Some bedside lights too look missing.

Hi Helen, I would turn the bed 90 degrees and have the longest wall as the feature wall. I think its always best to have the bed as the feature and also the first thing you see when you walk in.
