Help: ideas for painting hallway and stairs/landing
Comments (3)I agree the grey-green colour is lovely, and it's quite restful so I don't think it would be too much if you wanted to do the whole lot in that colour. Also it would go very nicely with the parquet. However if you want to break it up, you could consider installing a dado rail and have colour under the dado and white/neutral above, or vice versa. You could even install panelling up to dado height. I don't know whether panelling or dado rails are strictly authentic for 1930s, you would have to check that, but I think it would look ok even if not authentic, as long as the style is simple. One more thought, are you going to carpet the stairs? (They look lovely bare but will be very noisy I imagine). If so I would advise choosing carpet first and then paint to go with the carpet - much easier than trying to match carpet to paint!...See MoreHELP PLEASE!! Landing, stairs, hallway decorating ideas
Comments (17)I have a hall way very similar to yours, when we moved in it was painted white. I presume the previous owner wanted to improve light levels. It had the reverse effect! It made the space seem gloomier which may be related to the front of the house being north facing, what direction does your house face as this may influence paint choices. I love colour but go neutral in a space like a hall way as it links all the rooms in the house and in Victorian houses is very difficult to decorate, ceiling heights etc. We used Farrow and Balls London stone as it remained a true neutral,,many other beige/greige had pink/ purple tones which showed in artificial light. I agree with the other comments about stripping the doors particularly if you do decide on white, it will provide contrast and warmth. You could paint a darker colour beneath the dado rail. I would suggest careful placement of mirrors to maximise/ steal light from other rooms. Also pictures with glass bring light to the area too. You could mount pictures on the stair case in line with the treads. I agree with the earlier comment about mounts and frames. I would go for a runner to show off your lovely stair case. Does the door to your kitchen/diner have a glass panel (s) in it, if not I would suggest adding one or two depending on the type of original door you have that will pull light in from that room. Good lighting will help too, it all depends on your personal preference, you could have pendants downstairs and spotlights upstairs. Good luck with it and hope you enjoy the process...See MorePaint colour for hall stairs and landing
Comments (4)It would be really useful to post a few photos. A lot depends on the actual space, but also the exact colour of the carpet and tiles. I don't think I would go for pure white with quarry tiles, it could look a bit harsh. Earthy stoney colours could work well with quarry tiles....See MoreWhat can I do with hallway/stairs/landing?
Comments (1)You could do either! White walls with mirrors and one nice ‘hero’ artwork would make it ‘brighter’ or nice dark shades with a collage of artwork would make it moody and impactful!! Depends how you want to be treated when you step in...See MoreB-Bob
