Design ideas please for open living space

Hi all

Please can someone help me with ideas for decorating this space. I would like a rug and art on the wall above the sofa. I’m thinking maybe a mustard colour rug but I am not sure. I’m not very creative. Any ideas would be helpful.

Can you take a pic of the whole space, assuming the chairs are not all you have in this room?

Is there a kitchen/dining table/tv etc in this space also.

I think you have enough mustard in the chair and footstool and feel you need something more neutral eg a cream/grey chevron rug or something?

Are you going to have a coffee table/side tables/lamps etc? I would furnish it first then decide on rug/art

I have included a picture of the kitchen. You can just make out the brown leather dining chairs on the right which will have a dark brown wood dining table.
There’s a Tv bench opposite the sofa in the same colour as the legs on the grey sofa.
I don’t want a coffee table. I will have a small side table between the 2 sofas. Apart from that I don’t think there will be any more furniture.

I think your snug will always seem a little dark as the room has been elongated with the extension. I think the best you could do is pop a mirror in the snug, the biggest you can afford to see if that makes a difference. A lighter coloured rug possibly? It's a great space though and I like the wallpaper :) It would be a shame to lose the original door but could you change it for one with glass panels in to let light in from the hall?

Hi there, When it comes to engineered wooden floors they have been designed to work in conjunction with under floor heating so there is no issue there. If you are looking to go for a wooden floor then we would recommend going for an engineered board with a brushed and lacquered finish. The brushed texture will hide and scratches or scuffs that may occur, the lacquer on the board. Generally our boards come with 8 coats of Super Matte Lacquer. The lacquer will help protect the board from any spillages seeping into the board. If you have an idea of the colour you would be looking to go for we would be more than happy to suggest some suitable products. We also have some very realistic laminate Flooring by Kronoswiss. The Kronoswiss origins ranges comes in at 14mm thick. It is An AC5 Grade, each laminate is graded between AC1 - AC5. AC5 being the most durable. These boards have been designed to take heavy traffic. The origins range comes with the new Aqua stop technology, stopping spillages from seeping into the board for up to 72 hours. Giving reassurance if any spillages do happen. Enough space for a dining room table in open plan living space?

I’m no good at drawing floorplans but womdered if this would work: - Keep the island but turn it 90 degrees to face the garden. You will probably need to drop to 2 bar stools - Shorten the kitchen run with the sink and hob on it. One of those may need to go on the island - Dining table goes in front of the doors to the garden, parallel to the island and to the doors - then in the space in between your island and your dining table, basically under the big steel, you put a small sofa on the kitchen side of the room and a tv on the opposite wall. Yes it’s a walk way but this is not your main tv watching area, it’s just for the kids while you prep lunch etc.

I understand what you're saying about the entrance. From the floor plan it seems that the entrance might appear dark and narrow, I can't tell without photos. But if it is, you can achieve something light and bright with good paint, lighting, and mirrors. As for the open plan living, at a glance it seems the easiest option is to open up the back of the house, the kitchen and living room, to make a big kitchen diner. The two smaller rooms at the front could be kept as an office and a cosy living room. However, since you haven't moved in yet, the best possible advice would be to wait. Live in the space for a few months or a year before you make any major decisions. This can help you avoid costly mistakes.

Hi, it looks a lovely room. It's impossible to choose art for someone as it's so personal. I would however try to bring the copper/brown and yellow together. I'd go for a grey rug with tassels, (the hue is a bit off now I've uploaded it but looked fine before!) this is by ferm living and I thought the cushion worked well (jasper conran at Debenhams). I'd try and bring the yellow chair out a bit more. I know you mentioned a side table but it looks as if a coffee table would work well, it also comes in oak and is John Lewis. Art was from Desenio just as an idea. I'd add a bit more texture for a throw etc

I wasn’t considering a coffee table but seeing how it looks it might be an option now.
