How can we update/improve the facade of our house?

Below is a photo of the front of our house. As you can see, the cladding is peeling and it's looking rather dated and tired! It was built in 1969 and the cladding and roof need replacing, so we have an opportunity to change the appearance at the same time e.g. remove cladding altogether/full cladding/change to horizontal/vertical cladding/change colour etc. We have tried photoshopping a few ideas, but are really struggling to come up with something that looks right. I'd be grateful for any advice/ideas. Here are our criteria:

Must be low/no maintenance, especially the top half of the house. We have been considering wood-look fibre cement cladding but it's tricky to find examples of what this would look like on a full house as most seem to be unusual colours or really close-up shots.
Has to work with white windows. We would consider changing the front door and garage doors, but we aren't prepared to change all the windows.
We will be changing the gutters and soffits which would be another opportunity to change the colours.
We are changing the roof and our preference is grey tiles, however we are open minded.

I rather like your facade. I would think twice about painting the brickwork, as this would be a maintenance headache, but cleaning it would brighten it up. Otherwise stucco and paint the front ( brickwork) only? i would clad your existing canopy in lead, but leep the existing shape. Is the tarmac yours? If you could change this to something lighter and softer, this would have a really big impact. Clad the stairs in slate or indian sandstone, get rid of the block screen and replace with glass, ( marine grade stainless steel fittings and door furniture) black iron railing for the steps.

It’s one thing to fell trees that are diseased or encroaching paths or buildings, but to do that for no reason is sacrilege. What a sad day. As there are no buildings nearby (yet!) you could plant a couple of trees at the bottom. My favourites are birch (Betula), Mountain Ash (Sorbus), twisted willow (Salix). The birch is host to hundreds of insects which the birds feed on and they love to nest in them. Creates a lovely dappled shade. However, if the buildings are going to be built near your fence line then trees are not a good idea as the roots can cause damage. Shrubs such as evergreen Viburnums tinus or, as Carolina suggested, Photinia may help create a screen. I do hope you find a good remedy.

Thank you all so much. It has totally confirmed what I was thinking to get rid of the blue as a first step. I have Little Green French grey paint left from another room I might trial or FB setting plaster. Didn't think about hanging plant and adding horizontal line with panelling both great plans. thanks. Maybe after doing this I will feel less need to start totally from scratch. Loo over sink - as an FYI to others - is great in principle as we didn't have enough space for a separate sink. On reflection wouldn't do again. Sink is too small and very annoying to use. But it is eco as the water from washing hands is recycled and used to flush the loo!

Hi! Sounds like a fun project. I love a good farmhouse. Man about the house has given you some excellent suggestions for adding a shower in. It definitely seems to be just about moving the door into the bathroom and reconfiguring that space to be able to fit a shower in there as well. For the ground floor I'm wondering if moving the entrance to the side might be possible - just in front of the stairs and creating a hall that takes a slice off the back of the living room and joins up with your existing hall - so you basically get a bigger hall that includes the stair and the main entrance. That could then fit some bootroom type space in and coat hanging so it becomes a really useful space. Then I'm thinking you could make the porch element much wider, basically a single storey extension to the front, so that your living room pushes forward into the front garden. You will be able to get a lot more light in to the living room and will be able to just have the one door in from the hall so it becomes a much more usable living room. This would need planning permission and extensions to the front are more difficult to get approval, but this seems like a logical approach to improving the space for you. Thanks @cushioncover - ours is one of two houses that are similar but not identical. We have three floors and our neighbours have two. They have recently had their reddy-brown wood cladding replaced with white uPVC. We would like something that looks a bit more natural e.g. plank effect fibre cement. The other houses on the estate are different and are mainly brown tones. I like the grey look as posted by @Victoria and have crudely photoshopped what this could look like if we were to clad the top half and paint the bricks at the bottom. Also sketched in a new drive!

You'll notice I've broken my own rule and made the windows dark grey! This is because we've discovered you can have uPVC windows coated and that it bonds with the plastic, just like it would when making grey uPVC windows in the factory. So we're considering this. We have a garden room which is clad in cedar (similar colour to the photoshopped garage doors below) so it would be nice if they could tie in, but I don't want to clad in real cedar at the top of the house because I think it could end up looking a bit shabby due to the sun/rain? Has anyone seen fibre cement that looks like realistic cedar?

I'd be interested in any thoughts in the below design?

I like the entire top bit clad as your image rather than the partial that you currently have. You definitely need to choose the roof tiles and cladding together
