What to add in hallway?

We'd like to add a set of coathooks to the hallway (probably on the right hand side, it blocked the door & light switches) when it was on the left). And also a few other things too - perhaps a shoe rack and somewhere to put keys/letters.

There's not tons of space (as you can see), so wanted to know what other people have done with a similar space. Something like a sideboard would be great and useful (we always need more storage), but I worry about space.

Oh you have a good alcove to play with there. I’d put a mirror next to the window to bounce light around. Maybe a 3/4 length mirror. in an oval/rounded rectangle shape. Then coats next to that. Storage bench with drawers or baskets for shoes and a bench to perch on while you put shoes on/off might be more useful than a sideboard.

How about a hook and seat combo like this? This one is from Etsy but there are loads on there with different configurations and take up much less room than a sideboard.

Hi There I would add a hallway runner to take away the echo that would be there (due to there being a hard floor). I would also add something in the hall either a coat rack wall, mounted or free standing and change the light fittings for something unusual, a striking fitting is what is necessary in a room with very few features.

What age of house is it ? As glass block seem to only really suit a particular age / style of home ?! ..... simply adding lamps with daylight bulbs may be a less permanent solution ?!

I have a purple front door, there are bells that jingle to say people are here, it is tidy and light and I always have incense burning there so it smells lovely.

I really like both designs. It is clear, that you have really thought through your design scheme. I love design 2, I would lose the hall. It's a narrow wasted space. This design ( No. 2 ) is perfect for modern living and if you wanted to retain that element of zoning in the family area why not have some element of continuation from the porch wall to the end of that sofa - this could be created by a 2/3 way wall ( just to the end of that sofa )OR use wall panel slats floor to ceiling painted in the same colour as the walls OR go for oak. I like the ideas in this picture. It provides the practicality of storage and acts as a console, the mirror above will bounce light around the space and of course hooks for your coats. I would also consider a small bench to the left.(its always nice to have somewhere to sit to put on and take off shoes)

(just be sure not to drill through any wiring 🙂).
Perhaps with a little shelf above for keys etc., and a mirror. Little bench or seat for shoes is always a good idea. Or how about an Ikea lack shelf so you can display shoes or baskets vertically.

Your best spot is where the switches are. Have them moved (onto the wardrobe side panel for example). You could even use remote control switches (and thus leave the ones you have in place), they can be attached to any hard surface.
