How to brighten up an ex-council house
Comments (28)If you're working on a tight budget, how about some little things now so it looks cheery to come home to while you decide what to spend your money on? You could get some colour out there with some pots, or hanging baskets maybe, without breaking the bank. What about some climbers? I lived in a house very like this as a kid, and my mum always had pots and baskets and honeysuckle on a trellis by the door (painted bright coral...), so it was always a riot of colour and really cheerful. Then take your time choosing a door and a colour you love, or planning a porch....See Morei need help with the facade of my house!
Comments (14)I love that you moved the front door, it gives you a nice welcoming space to come home to and to greet visitors. Another few thoughts for consideration. The front of the main section of the house looks a little out of scale now because it's volume is so large and unbroken. What if you either painted the siding at the height of the garage door on down the color of the foundation under the porch, or removed that section of siding and replaced it with a stone facing? If the garage door was the color of this section or close to it, it would recede and allow the front entrance to stand out more. The face of the white part of the house would be in scale then. If you want to replace the garage door, you could go with a carriage door type, which would suit the style of your house. Your orange chairs on the porch are so much fun! Consider a fun color for the front too, maybe yellow? Some landscaping from the driveway along the steps would also draw the visitors eye to the front door. Your home is beautiful and you must be enjoying it very much!...See Morewhat to do about pebbledash?

Comments (7)no it isn't possible to keep the facade looking the same. the very definition of an externally insulated wall mean you're putting insulation on the outside of the wall and then making it water tight, by way of render board and render or brick slips. if they're solid walls, it may be easier to insulate internally....See MoreKirsty Hughes
