Most definitely not solid wood flooring ... as everyone above has advised. The whole reason we stopped producing Solid Wood Flooring and manufacturing engineered wooden floors as opposed to Solid Wood floors is due to their inherent stability within 21st century installations i.e. underfloor heating systems / air conditioning etc. Our engineered wooden floors once installed look exactly the same as solid wood flooring (see below) and the usable hardwood wear layer (i.e. from surface to the tongue and groove ) is the same depth - so the same longevity, and you can have them oiled, bespoke stained , texturised to suit your interior. If you change your decor in years to come, you can sand your floor and stain to suit... These 2 floors are both the same ...Character Oak engineered flooring but the floor above has an antiqued stain - this would work well within an Edwardian interior ...whilst the one below is clear UV oiled Character Oak flooring. Hi Sally, Have you looked at electric under floor heating matting? It's a much more cost effective option and requires a lot less work. If you have, and it is still out of the question - engineered wood flooring, with insulation underneath will be your best option for retaining the heat. I hope this helps! Hello helengb5, You can use electric underfloor heating mats on top of a screed. As Dale Loth Architects have advised, insulation boards make the underfloor heating much more efficient, so would be a good idea to use. You will have to ensure you have enough clearance for insulation boards/mats/floor covering so that you don't get any strange lips between rooms and you don't have to plane the bottom off all your doors! Got to agree with radicalman - there are actually a lot of downsides to a concrete floor. Because they're so brittle and hard they are almost guaranteed to crack - they're also very cold and unforgiving underfoot. We offer a poured resin that is just 3-4mm thick and is so similar looking to concrete a lot of people can't tell the difference. Essentially we pour two pigments at the same time and blend them so you get the same finish/effect - but it's warm, smooth, soft (elastic) and really comfortable so you can walk around your home/kitchen etc. barefoot without worrying about it! Aesthetically though I love a polished concrete floor - such a great blank canvas for any style as it complements contemporary interiors and provides a really interesting contrast with more traditional styles! If you want a warmer finish (in a taupey grey or warmer pigment) that's also possible and stops it looking too industrial...
