Adding a bedroom+shower, moving a kitchen - layout conundrum!
Comments (31)Dear all, If you want to add a bathroom, you have to start there and work everything else round it. The reason for this being that you usually have to feed into the existing soil pipe. The soil pipe in this case is on the left hand outside wall. Without knowing if you can put another one on another outside wall ie the rear, which is probably unlikely, you have no option but to place a bathroom as close to the entrance on the left as possible. Obviously you could change the system in the new bathroom to a macerator style toilet, and technology has come a long way with regards those, but they are not for everyone. It may be possible to change the shape of the kitchen, remove the back entrance and push the front wall back, ( maybe not, as i presume it's instrumental in holding up the mezzanine ) If it were possible in theory:- You could - move the kitchen wall back to make more room in the lounge. Add a bathroom with pocket doors ahead of you when you come in and split the lounge down the middle. You could also have a pocket door entrance from the bedroom to the bathroom jack and jill style. That bedroom would also get the balcony....See MoreHow to reconfigure upstairs for an extra bedroom
Comments (11)I was looking at an earlier post which showed the whole house because I think you need to think about the whole house. In my opinion however you extend you are limited by how you can do the roof. Although I am sure an architect could come up with innovative solutions I think the second storey at the back can’t be any wider than the lounge is long so to get enough upstairs space I wondered about building forward. (Which falls outside permitted development but may well be allowed) I enclose one option...See More15m2 Bedroom - best layout to fit ensuite and a modern design wardrobe
Comments (7)I would do an "open" bathroom (shower/bath + sink, no toilet because the room is too small to have a closed space) in the wall where the box room is, with a wardrobe opposite the bed. I would not do a partition wall between the bathroom and the room because it would make the space so small, but I would build a Crittal screen-looking separation! This would make your room very wow like you want ;) But bear in mind it would still make the room smaller, and the bathroom wouldn't be huge either, but I love these open ensuite :D Feel free to message me if you want more info, I am an interior designer and I can help you with 3D to imagine the space! Comments (10)I agree that it would be nicest to have the bed near the corner window so I would put the ensuite at the back and a dressing room in the middle. Another option would be to make bedroom 4 the ensuite from bedroom 1 and split the long thin room in to two bedrooms, with either an airing cupboard or shower room between them, depending on whether you'd rather have more bathrooms or bigger bedrooms. This would give you a master with ensuite and three more equal sized other rooms with the option of a third bathroom....See MoreJonathan
