How to clean off residue from old porch

Hi we had an ugly PVC porch removed and a new front door added so that we could show off the lovely arch at the front of the house, However, the porch has left this horrible white plastic/glue/residue - not sure what it is - all around the brickwork on the arch. Doesn't come off with scraping so anyone any ideas how we can get rid of it please?

Move a heat gun back and forth along the bead of caulk that you desire to remove from the bricks, holding it approximately 6 to 8 inches away. Continue in this manner until the caulk it is warm and pliable.

Use a putty knife to scrape along the edges of the caulk and pry it up. Remove as much caulk as you can with the blade of the putty knife.

Work up the edges of difficult sections of caulk with the blade of a utility knife. Scrape away the caulk once the edges are released from the brick with the blade of the putty knife.

Scrub any remaining caulk and caulk residue from the surface of the brick with warm water and a sponge. Rinse and allow the brick to dry. Clean the brick using a sponge and denatured alcohol.

Things You Will Need

Heat gun

Putty knife

Utility knife

Warm water

Sponge

Denatured alcohol

Tip

Heat one small section of caulk at a time when removing large lengths of old caulk.

Warning

Wear eye protection.

Are they hollow? Ours were (still are from the ones we haven't replaced yet) Our joiner is getting us new ones for like £15 each. They will be the standard white 4 panel ones but they do look nicer. I have tried painting one from downstairs as a chalk board but the finish isn't brilliant tbh. We also have them as bi-folds in our lounge which we definitely can't afford to replace, so my plan is to put beading on them to give them some shape. Loads of DIY videos on how to do it, but basically glue & pin thin strips on to give the impression they are panelled doors instead of flat ones. If you just want flat doors then any good paint system would be ok (light sand to get rid of the varnish, prime and couple of top coats) As mentioned, zinssers do a one does all base/undercoat but it's not cheap!

I only remove fresh items from fridge but leave jars etc I tidy but don't clean I usually put fresh linen on bed day before we leave so come back to a nice bed I arrange all the blinds / curtains so open but not fully open I set all the light timers I leave a key with neighbours and let a SMALL number of neighbours know As we are about to leave I put bleach in all the toilets If it is a taxi firm we don't know ( try to use same one each time) as I leave I talk to and wave at imaginary children and then discuss imaginary children with husband when we set off "will they remember to ...hope they visit .....etc" As we are about to leave I put bleach in all the toilets

I stopped using Dulux because of the wet/dry join visibility. I've found that Johnstones paint doesn't do this, so I'm guessing that it'll show painting new on old. As a thought try a Magic Eraser. I've found these very useful for marks. You can get them now from the £ shops too. Worth a try. It's so annoying when things like this happen. Good luck.

@Pavan123... just to update you. I've spent the best part of a week (not full days of course - just few hours here and there when I can!) cleaning the wall up. It was COVERED in old render and dust - thick chunks of it in most places. The mortar pointing was like sand as well. So I got a water spray and a putty knife (or a flat edge wallpaper scraper would do) with a dust mask and goggles on and just scraped off what I could whilst spraying water over it to keep the dust to a minimum. Then i manually scraped out the top of the pointing then scrubbed it all with a stiff brush and warm soapy water (I should have used sugar soap) then rinsed it off. Now it's ready to re-point and I will give it a final clean/wipe down after the pointing sets as there are only some parts with the white dust on. I could get brick acid on it but I kind of like the old look so don't want them to be TOO clean and new looking! LOL. My wall is a bit of a mess though to be fair. Will post a pic up later. Whoever built it must have used any old broken bricks lying around as there are chunks missing out of some, some rows are all split bricks etc. Might remove a few and put full ones back we saved.
