Conceal Boilers

Guys can you please share ideas how i can hide this boiler. its in th kitchen with french window on one side and a small dinning area on the other, Its right in the face as you open the door to the kitchen.

Also the plumbing need to be hidden on the roof. Any ideas that don't break the bank!

I do plan to change the wall paper and paint the whole place.

Can you make it look like a wall unit? Many people hide a boiler in a unit but you need to ensure ventilation.

We fitted a wall cupboard the same style as the other units around our boiler and it does the trick. My builder routed out three holes in the top for ventilation. The holes are about 2” in diameter. Looks okay.

We put in an aqualisa digital shower in our old ensuite upon our plumbers recommendation. It has a control which you can situate in your bathroom or bedroom etc that you switch on and when the light flashes it lets you know when it's reached your set temperature. They're not particularly cheap but I would highly recommend. Our shower enclosure was small but not an issue as the shower was so good. We installed maybe 2/3 years before we moved and didn't have any issues with it.

Hi Sara. If you want doors at the end I'd go for a galley with built in seating similar to this. Opposite way round for yours though with tall units (with appliances) and banquette on right. I'd just have base units on the left and stop them where the tall units opposite end if you want to keep the side door. I would look at moving the boiler though and you may have to change the dining room window as it looks low although there may be other ways to deal with this. I think french doors would be nice, perhaps painted in a dark shade?

whizzywig and Man About the House, I have measured and measured and it seems I can’t have a shower more than 80x 80cm after the stud wall , that leaves me 80cm for basin. My concern is if it’s too small a shower, and we will all be mostly using the shower, it maybe too tight. It’s also not a lot of space for two ppl to stand at the basin with storage at the bottom and being hindered by the shower glass on one end and open door at the other. I would not take the basin or rad or anything behind the door as it’s really awkward using it. .. still thinking about this. Am I trying to cram too much in when I and not getting enough room for shower or basin, when I can have a roomy shower in the bathtub ( it’s 1500 x 950) and a twin sinks with counter space ( especially as the girls grow and more than on one will be in there at the same time. I know having a separate bath and shower is a luxury, but only one person can be in there showering or bathing at one time given that they all like their privacy even now.

It looks like you all get the idea. There are no limits, apart from our imagination, to the configurations. I have no idea why they are called jib doors. Does anyone know? I do know from experience though that they work a treat. Many years ago I was visiting Abbotsford the home of Sir Walter Scott. I was lost in reverie taking in the contents of a lovely room when the wall moved and a woman appeared. I quite literally jumped out of my skin! She turned out to be a grand daughter of Sir Walter Scott who very kindly explained the door mechanism. I think she took secret pleasure in startling visitors!

If its a balanced flue it does not need combustion air, but it will get hot so it needs to ventilate from and to the room. Make sure you continue to have access to all of the controls. and if you need maintenance or replacement of the boiler make sure the 'kitchen unit' is demountable and re-mountable.

Make sure you pipes are well insulated, getting an A rated boiler will drop to B, C, D, E, F or even G rated heating system if it is uninsulated. And not just the first meter you can see but the whole system.

If you might be tempted to do a 'deep retrofit' to reduce energy consumption, running cost and your carbon footprint then consider insulating the wall behind the boiler and then refitting (extending the flues and pipes and insulation in the process). Do the same for the radiators.
