The Garden Project! Starting from scratch - ideas welcome
Comments (15)Thank you one and all for your suggestions, a good few things for us to think about. My apologies, I didn't really do a good job in explaining the style or anything! but the second image Carolina has suggested is the look and feel we would be going for. I really like the idea of using different materials and levels for the garden which we can achieve quite easily (I hope!) I have cleaned and stored all of the bricks from the chimney which was removed in the he house reno, and will be planning to build a flower bed, seat area along the left side (attached). I'm steering toward patio more so than decking especially given I can use the cover for the inspection chamber. Thanks for info on the cover guys! I am looking for low maintenance and have even considered adding (dare I say it) artificial turf. Better for slide tackling the kids! The idea of using diagonals is very clever and I shall give them some thought. Time to start sourcing materials and getting some quotes me thinks!...See MoreStruggling with L shaped lounge. Comments (5)I don't have anything wildly different to add but I like sketching ideas so here's my two cents! You've already figured out the best position for your sofas and tv. Just pull the sofas in a bit as Jen P suggested and pull the ottoman back from exile, and already you'll see a difference. If you're tired of the carpet, try a dark wooden floor with a huge rug? Carolina is spot on with the wraparound tv console..I'd add shelves around the corner for books, photos, and a few favourite items. Then you need two fantastic armchairs. This is where you add personality and purpose to that dead space. It becomes a cosy conversational corner for when you're not watching tv. Nice and close to the kitchen for refilling your wine/coffee! You're lucky that pretty much any colour and style of chair will work with the sofas. If you're really feeling brave, the chairs don't even have to match each other...! You can draw from the burgundy/rust colours in your cushions, or just find chairs you love and use them as a starting point for a new colour scheme. One last thought...is the door to stairs used a lot, or can you go around by the kitchen? If you could block it and extend the built in unit all the way along, that would be even better......See MoreGarden ideas welcome!
Comments (0)We have a blank canvas! We have recently moved into a new build with a small patio just outside the patio doors (where the first photos are taken from) the garden isn’t huge but a nice size. It is being rotivated and soil added to level it. We also have small space behind both garages which are at either corner of the first photos. I LOVE the garden, and can not wait to have one that we can use! We might turf it to start and monitor the sun movement throughout our first summer to see how best to utilise the space. I am thinking of a patio across the bottom (by the fence) and putting a small shed into the larger space behind the garage but any ideas would be greatly welcomed as I bt no means am great at garden design! Thanks in advance!...See MoreEnclosed Porch Design - all ideas welcome...
Comments (0)Hi all...first time query and hope someone can offer inspiration! I'd like to add a small porch on to my main entrance( which is at the back of my 170msq house and is north-facing) and I've attached a photo of it as it is now. The house is an ICF building with a standard, off-white render finish. Facing the door, 9m behind the house is a newly constructed timber finish garden office, using the same dark-green window frames. I plan to enclose the yard with timber-fencing to form a vaguely courtyard-feel... My question: I think a 3x2m (ish) size enclosed flat-roof porch with some render, some timber, and dark-green window frames could work well .....but I'd like someone with a designer/architect's eye to give me a steer in the right direction. All help welcome thanks...See MoreSonia
