Re-model our 1930's detached house: can you help please?
Comments (8)To me the proportions of the windows don't look right. I don't think that the front face of the bay would've originally been one pane - I think there wouldn't been one or two vertical dividers. To improve the look of the house I would replace the windows with something that looks more in keeping. I would also re-render with a smooth render. I would either put the front door where the flat window is, or make more of an entrance of the for where it is. You don't say whether you use the driveway down the side of the house for a car. if not there are things you could do to make the existing entrance more appealing with a path, planters, etc....See MoreHelp in Brighton! totally fed up trying to design our kitchen
Comments (35)Roughed up my earlier sketch in the IKEA planner. It should be pretty close to the correct scale. You could easily fit a much larger kitchen island in but I can't figure out how to do that in their planner. You also have enough space in this scheme that you could make the island a fully floating one and would have the option of rotating it 90 degrees too if you preferred. The fridge freezer is in the tall cabinet to the right of the sink. I actually think I'd want to swap the sink and hob position round now but can't be bothered to change it again this evening lol. I think in reality you'd want to just box off the awkward bit of wall sticking out by the kitchen island. Or possibly fit some shallow shelves in. You'd have buckets of cupboard and counter space and given the wall of floor to ceiling units you could get away with a much more open devol-esque scheme in the kitchen itself if you wanted. Have no idea what sort of style kitchen you were after so just defaulted to my favourite scheme (sorry!)....See Morehelp me decide on our final kitchen design please!!!
Comments (12)By the way we also originally had all the seating in a line like that, but I realised that a) the seats all faced away from the view (our big sliders will be behind that side of the island), and b) everyone sitting in a row like that is not at all convivial. It just looks good in photos. So we've changed the island layout so that the seats are at one of the short ends and along some of the long side, so when people are sitting there, they are in an L shape which is much nicer for conversation. And we've put some cupboards under the rest of that side of the island which has added a bit more storage. It won't be as photogenic and I struggled to give up the original design because I loved the symmetry of it, but I am glad I was flexible on it in the end, as I think it will be nicer kitchen to spend time in IRL as opposed to looking good in a photo!...See MoreDesign gurus! Comments (0)Hi I was wondering whether I can have some advice on our kitchen layout. We planned to get our sunroom converted to an extension. Unfo Unfortunatel, we got let down by the contractors we hired who turned out to be professional scammers! Lots of tears and 6 months later, we are ready to get our kitchen done again but leaving the sunroom as is for now. How would you maximise the space? bearing in mind we are ok with the dining table being in the sunroom f. looking forward to all your suggestions! thank you these are suggestions we have received from a builder (just keeping all the units in the ”kitchen” space) : would love a kitchen island, if not a breakfast bar and plenty cupboard space. thanks in advance...See MoreKlass Kitchens
