The Garden Project! Starting from scratch - ideas welcome
Comments (15)Thank you one and all for your suggestions, a good few things for us to think about. My apologies, I didn't really do a good job in explaining the style or anything! but the second image Carolina has suggested is the look and feel we would be going for. I really like the idea of using different materials and levels for the garden which we can achieve quite easily (I hope!) I have cleaned and stored all of the bricks from the chimney which was removed in the he house reno, and will be planning to build a flower bed, seat area along the left side (attached). I'm steering toward patio more so than decking especially given I can use the cover for the inspection chamber. Thanks for info on the cover guys! I am looking for low maintenance and have even considered adding (dare I say it) artificial turf. Better for slide tackling the kids! The idea of using diagonals is very clever and I shall give them some thought. Time to start sourcing materials and getting some quotes me thinks!...See MoreDesign ideas welcome!
Comments (11)Thanks so much folks! There are some really awesome ideas in here that we hadnt reconsidered ! We aren't keen on a Murphy bed because of the size of them which usually makes existing rooms smaller so we'd keep a sofa bed instead if we couldn't make a genuine second bedroom area but having seen some of the designs for opening it up and creating a second bed at the back I think I may revisit the budged and see if it can stretch more because having a second room would be great and add a ton of value so may well be worth the added expense. Thanks again what a creative bunch - keep ideas coming if you think of any more! Will update if/when we decide on a layout too...See MoreLarge lounge and vacant space needed to fill, ideas welcomed!
Comments (11)I think you have a few options. You could remove more of the dividing wall to help you treat the space as one big room. While at it I might put in doors to the garden and either put matching fire surrounds in both spaces or leave the front one and take out the back chimney breast. Alternately you make your existing dining room a space for your big TV. I prefer this option as I think your TV is too big for the alcove it is in and fights for attention against a fireplace that is also larger than the original. I would likely make the space you are asking about as a lounge/ dining room and use it for entertaining/ reading and put a smaller second TV in there- probably in the RH alcove. I would put your main TV in what is currently your dining room and block up the door to the kitchen which I think will make refitting the kitchen easier at a later date. Great name btw....See MoreReconfiguring Victorian ground floor - creative ideas needed
Comments (16)It is a challenging layout for sure. First try: Dining definitely near the garden, space for 4, but also for 6 when needed. No boot/mudroom, kept as much open as I could. Imagine a tiled floor throughout and a nice big doormat to zone off the area. Bench next to backdoor, then app.35cm deep units for shoes and whatnot. Shower room (shower pan is 80x80cm), washing machine in hallway cupboard. Kitchen with extra deep worktop on cooking side. Lots of tall units on the opposite wall, perhaps some low ones with upper to store toaster and coffee machine. Then towards the left a play area and some shelving/baskets so they can tidy up while you are cooking....See Morecartrefni
