Comments (7)Hi Ciara I love the idea of full height doors for the garage conversion but would consider the practicality of it, think about where the desk will go. It will not add to pavement appeal if the desk is against the glass and you can see the messy bits that tend to gather under a desk. Crittal style steel windows are exorbitantly expensive, but I agree with Jonathan the house lends itself to multi paned windows. You might want to look at good quality PVC options. I would suggest the roof gets a jet wash as the green moss should come off and reveal the colour of the roof....See MoreExterior update 1970s house - advice appreciated
Comments (3)There is always a difficulty with semi's as too much change can make it look weird, but you're only linked through the garage so I think you've got some leeway. You could add a small roof over the front door, although I think it would look much better if you added a whole timber built porch and tied it into the roof. You could have it in white to match the windows, or plain wood and reclad the first floor in matching timber, maybe natural edged? Or you could paint it all the same. I think there are a number of things you could do to update it and add a bit without changing it too much as the base is sound if bland. You could also add some nice clipped bushes in pots, they always add to a front....See More1970s house exterior upgrade
Comments (4)Hi! Congratulations on your new home! You can treat or stain the wooden slats to change the look of them. If you paint them then you'll be stuck repainting regularly, so you might want to avoid that. But a stain that soaks into the wood will change the colour without needing to be regularly applied. You might want to also chat with your adjoining neighbours and treat both at the same time so they look good side by side. Though that can take a longer time to get to know them and negotiate a finish that you both like! If you remove and redo the external render then look at incorporating more insulation - this period of house tends to not be well insulated. You could also remove the timber slats and insulate behind a new finish as they are likely even less insulated there. You could replace the timber with a lower maintenance option like hung slates or tiles. The difficulty is choosing because you have so many options! Best of luck!
