help with front of house

Hope you are all keeping safe and healthy
I’d like some advice with the front of my house
I’ve concentrated on the inside and neglected the outside

This Victorian terrace cottage has the original sash windows and that’s something I don’t want to change. The window above enter acne is mine

I’d like to keep it as a cottage style if I can
1)What are your thoughts painting front white with either dark grey window or a green frame and door don’t think I can

I’ve always fancied a canopy over front door
the front will need a gate
I will need to change paving maybe go for wooden floor effect

Any suggestions will be appreciated

Think traditional with a modern twist. Don’t paint the bricks it will just cheapen the look and I love the soft rust colour. There are small metal canopies you can fit which will go well with the style of the house. I would move the satellite dish higher up - any tv aerial person can do that, doesn’t have to be the provider (once lockdown is over). The black and white tiles would be perfect, very smart!

It’s a lovely, handsome little house.

I‘m a little sceptical wether a canopy would improve its looks which are late Victorian/Edwardian I’m guessing. .

Tiling the path with period looking tiles could look lovely.

I‘m not sure what you mean exactly by paving in ‘wooden floor effect’.

Having plants will also look great.

Can the satellite dish be moved onto the roof?

Im sure there’ll be more advice coming your way. 😊

The porch example shows you probably need more space for it to look good and not cluttered.

Your right a canopy wouldn’t work I don’t think.
I’ve asked that question before about the satellite dish and for the hassle according to my provider)it’s not worth it they are ugly looking things.
I meant wood effect tiles for outdoors but think that’s more for patios

1. If the HO association doesn't prevent it, paint that brick. The white section will blend in much better if the whole thing is one color. Suggest sage, cream, medium gray as options. Big job, continued maintenance, but looks fantastic with the right scheme. 2. Replace front door & window with double doors or door with sidelights. Think outside the box. Paint the front door. 3. REplace all the windows with traditional configurations. These are seriously dated and don't give much ventilation if you want to open them. 3. Build a loggia across the front and a building-wide porch. Love the 1st photo with the Craftsman porch. 4. Landscaping. 5. If you need a new roof, consider metal. Lasts longer and adds character. Comes in lots of neutrals and colors. Be careful of colors; you may change your mind in 10 years. Search houzz for photos. Decide what you love and what your budget will afford. Think outside the box. You already own one.

Need help on my passageway between front and back of house

I hired a local carpenter to build a shed along our side passage. It's a somewhat odd shape - 1mx10m but it works well for storing bikes, paint, garden tools and all manner of other items. It has a door at both ends and so could technically still serve as a passage, but we don't use it as such.

Hi all! Hope everyone is staying safe! We are thinking what plants to put in front of our house. We plan to do it next week. We’ve put boxwoods in the right side since we had a narrow space there. The left side is wider (pic included with sizes in cm). I wanted both sides to be look cohesive but not have only boxwoods. Plus bigger boxwoods would be more expensive I guess. Any suggestions? The space is south west facing so it gets the afternoon sun. We get around 2cm snow in the winter. Let me know if you need more info. Thanks in advance!

Is the brown shed door yours? Because if you could paint that white, that would make it look a lot more symmetrical I think.

I think those checkered tiles is a grate idea. Pretty much anything you put down there though would be better as long as you get rid of the uneven stone. Pay extra attention to the front of the flooring in the 'gate', cause that was a bit of an eyesore.

I dont think you should paint anything though. the fasade is great. Just wash the 'fence'.

I like E D's path suggestion. I wouldn't paint the windows but I would paint the door. You could pick out the purple in the dark bricks and then also duplicate it in some nice Wisteria.

Definite no with regards to the canopy and painting the bricks

The brickwork and stonework looks in great shape so no changes needed there. Getting the bricks washed would be the best thing.

I would focus on the front garden the path and the front wall.

The path, as ED suggested, traditional tiled

The garden possibly gravel and the front wall either removed and replaced with railings and shrubs, washed or just covered in the same ivy that's growing on the other wall.

You could go with a very bold colour on the door if you want a fresh look.

The horizontal cable to dish would look better if moved up a tad and tucked under the protruding line of bricks. Also see if you can change the vertical cable to brown or black rather than white.

Have a discussion with whoever you share the alley way with and see if you can agree to paint the door /gate to match one of your two front doors.

We had a similar style house with a white and black front path just like above photo and every one who came to the house admired it.

Wood effect tiles floor tiles are lovely in the right place ( I have them in my kitchen) but they would look very out of place outside your house

Here are some paint colours which work well with orange brick. The brick colours were measured with a small device and the readings from them made it possible to locate & plot them on this specialist colour wheel.

That info was then used to find both harmonising & contrasting paint colours, suitable for door & trim suggestions.
