Are quirky kitchens a fantastic idea or does simplicity work best?

The great pleasure of having a truly bespoke kitchen is the ability to add any features you want to your kitchen design - from vibrant leopard print details, to mismatched, ceramic tiled splashbacks.

Do you love a quirky, unconventional kitchen design? Or, do you think they're far too risky and simple designs are best?

So much can be added to a classic kitchen in the form of lighting, accessories, furniture, paint and wallpaper to make it your own. It won't date and you can change it up over time as your tastes and needs change. I LOVE crazy decor but would rather it was in restaurants, bars and hotels than my home where. Does that make me boring?!

Kitchens are expensive! Crazy designs tend to date quicker, so I’m a fan on a cleaner, simpler base design and then add your own crazy with accessories

All of the projects are very impressive, the transformations are all pretty amazing and should definitely provide inspiration to anyone looking to do similar projects. I was personally torn between the country kitchen and the sloping garden, in the end my vote went to the sloping garden project, the transformation from a blank awkward looking area to such a cleverly designed and attractive space is amazing.

You have some lovely ideas Jane, you definitely have an eye for design. I love your log burner, perfect for those cosy winter evenings. In terms of the wall colour I think a nice deep blue - the Little Greene paint company do a great Royal Navy colour I believe it’s colour 257,which would look fabulous. I personally think the blue would work on a feature wall with the remaining walls in a more subtle tone, like an off white or very light grey as darker tones can make the space look smaller. I like the idea of combining two types of chairs, I think this concept truly works - Vitra have been doing this within their lifestyle shots for a long time. I have had the pleasure of visiting the Vitra factory and campus based in Basel, Switzerland as part of my Vitra training and the love and craftsmanship put into each piece is truly phenomenal. A super addition to any home. I love your choice of using the Vitra DSW and DAW chairs, they are super comfortable and durable, a true classic that deserves your investment. With regards to dining tables, I think an Oak table will work brilliantly alongside the items you are working towards, I especially think it will tie in with your floor and kitchen area. Have you seen the Vitra EM Dining Table? The EM table was designed by Jean Prouvé at the beginning of the 1950s for the 'Maison-Tropique' project. With every single detail governed by its construction, the table follows the aesthetics of necessity. It illustrates the force vectors and static connections more commonly seen in the context of civil engineering works. EM = Entretroise Métallique. This table will sit perfectly within your space and work fabulously with the chairs you have been looking at. Like I have previously said you cannot go far wrong with Vitra; their brand ethics and the lifespan of the products are truly second to none. Hi Noa, I’m the drawing you just posted - the drawers wouldn’t work under the breakfast bar either - if you are using this software to design this yourself - you may need a bit more guidance, as the window looks to me to be bigger than on the plan - which might interrupt the gate outside ... and there’s no pillar shown in there either - which would reduce the look of the side panel that’s visible when you walk into the room.

Quirky is great until you come to sell the property and you are then limiting your market to someone with the same quirkiness or someone prepared to put in a new kitchen so I very much agree with the other posters.

You also might wake up one morning and just hate everything in your very personalised kitchen and want to rip it out...
