Choosing a master bedroom wall colour

I am looking for advice on wall colour for our master bedroom.The walls are currently 'Sandy Steps' by Dulux and the carpet is a darker neutral beige shade. We recently bought a new cream upholstered bed and the bed is too similar in colour to the walls and feel we need a change to make the bed stand out more and make the room more contemporary and inject some range of colour. I recently ordered some light oak bedside units and a dresser.
I was thinking either a lighter shade like tinted Whites so the bed was darker or a darker wall in a mushroom colour, but was worried about a dark wall with a dark neutral carpet. Any advice on colours for the wall would be much appreciated. The room is north facing with a lot of light. Only paint available to me at the moment is Dulux.

    Lovely carpet, I think I can visualise where you are with this.


    Bedrooms need to be soothing and a timeless colour that usually works is blue.

    In its most delicate tone its always soothing and restful. Just be a bit careful as to whether you have southerly or northerly light coming in, because as you probably already know, blue can read quite cold and dark even in a lighter colour if you get north/west light in at the window. In a sunny southerly room it will seem much warmer and welcoming.


    Green (a very pale soft warm yellow based green is a great way to enhance a darker room, combined with neutrals. So if your room is a little dark for most of the day, it's likely to need this injection of a warmer tone.


    Do get a Dulux tester pot, paint it onto a piece of A4 and blue tack it up. Live with it for a day or so, walk past it morning. noon and night and you'll know immediately if it works. If you're not sure about a colour, it's not right.
