Modern apartment with no storage - any solutions?
Comments (18)Matt Patterson, it's because Americans love stuff...lots and lots of stuff. All the built-in storage space in our country is a relatively new idea. We live in an 1890s Victorian without a single closet, and I couldn't be happier about it, because it has helped us cure our addiction and attachment to stuff. It's a simpler, happier life, and it has freed up untold amounts of money and time....See MoreLiving room layout, lighting and kids storage!
Comments (5)If you're looking at getting new sofas why not consider the storage ones either with drawers or a lift up seat? Your son may just need help with Opening and closing. I don't know how many toys there are but also consider a cabinet in the corner by the fire. I assume the doors are symmetrical in the room although it doesn't look like it in the pic so I'd add your chairs in either corner by the door, as there looks to be room away from the wall, and push the sofas and table further towards the fire. Re light, you could go contemporary or traditional. I'd get something with several arms and hang it about 8ft off the floor. I think wall lights would also be great but then there's the mess with the walls so depends on budget... Do also add table lamps on the cabinet and maybe a side table. It's a lovely room btw...See Morespace for storage or more aesthetically pleasing radiators position?
Comments (5)That's a lovely sized bathroom ffawnog! You're very lucky! We would suggest maybe thinking again about the radiator you have in there. We love the more traditionally styled column rads like that, but maybe getting a slimline one that is a little taller may be a solution. One like this - http://www.bestheating.com/milano-windsor-traditional-white-3-column-radiator-1800mm-x-203mm-vertical.html or perhaps a heated towel rail in a similar style - http://www.bestheating.com/milano-trent-traditional-heated-towel-radiator-930mm-x-620mm-flat-top-rail.html Either way, we can't wait to see the finished look! We're off to lament our distinct lack of bathroom space now :-(...See MoreLiving room layout/styling dilemma
Comments (10)Our advice to you is to embrace some dark shades! Not only can dark-coloured walls give you the cosy feeling you desire but it will simultaneously make the room feel bigger as it soaks up any shadows. Here is an example of a room where we have encouraged darker shades: Having a darker wall behind your TV will also help camouflage it so it's not a main focal point. We have done this previously and added panelling to draw the eye away from the TV and instead to the featured wall behind it. Regarding sofa's it can be unavoidable to put a main sofa in front of the TV however having another sofa on either side of the original sofa can lead to a rather claustrophobic feeling. Plus you don't want to walk into the room to be immediately greeted with the back of a sofa. Have you considered multiple armchairs or footstools that can be used as chairs when entertaining? These are more manoeuvrable so you can move close the log burner in the winter or further to the windows in the summer.
