1950s devoid of character

we are in the process of buying this 1950s house which is in a super spot but is devoid of any character whatsoever. I’ve always lived in Victorian or Georgian houses and am in a dilemma as to what to do with it. I don’t like mid-century so it’s a bit of a conundrum for me. We are both drawn to cottages and wonder if we could make it into one or should we go elegant aka Georgian? We have the funds to extend and it needs another room. I’d love to know what you all think. Windows need replacing so I see this as an opportunity to change the style of the house.
