Bedroom advice - finishing touches!
Comments (45)Hello again all and sorry for the delay! i have now got a throw and started to extend my gallery over the corner. I grabbed an old chair and rug that were kicking about in my parents' garage and put them in the corner to give me some idea of what i want. actually, i kinda like the beat-up chair but i don't think the rug looks right. is it too small? Now i have the reddish throw (LOVE it... from the Avoca shop in Belfast - amazing place, if you are ever in Belfast do go!!) I am actually considering replacing my blind because i prefer red tones to the turquoise. Just not sure what I would get instead? Still need a fab lamp and more cushions but wisdom says wait for the January sales! I still think I need something more eyecatching on my vanity too... Considering a map above my bed but I don't know if it would compete with the gallery wall too much? have to say i do love the "hello" sign!...See MoreBedroom Layout help
Comments (30)One plan - thank you thank you thank you... I have been at work all day earning £ to pay for this little lot and have only just seen your plans and advice. Your quick(??) sketch up shows exactly what I was thinking but couldn't visualise. It looks great. What width would you advise is the minimum for the walk in to allow movement space ? It has even prompted the man of the house to get his tape measure out which is good ! This would definitely give us the most storage space of all our options. So now there are 3 options To weigh up. 1. Walk in - Will throw current symmetry of room, but will definitely give the most hidden storage space (perfect as we also need linen and towel storage for the house within this room somewhere). Assuming cost will be studded wall, plastering plus internal fittings. 2. Alcove wardrobes - Will maintain symmetry of the room, will give the least storage of all options. Probably the most expensive option as will require bespoke alcoves with internal fittings. May install fireplace/ dressing table to chimney breast. 3. Wardrobe bank along wall opposite chimney. This would maintain symmetry of alcoves. I think storage would probably be somewhere between the other 2 options. Maybe more potential to get wardrobe company in to have a look. I like the look of the handle less ones shown above. Would leave option of bed on wall either as you come into the room or on the chimney breast. Luciana - thanks for your measurements - really helpful. I will add them onto our plan to check how the space works. I'm in Bristol - which Italian company did you use ? Those fittings are really lovely. I'm not sure where else to source just the interior bits. All - we have the most fabulous carpenter - retired guy who doesn't charge the earth and also just does a few jobs to keep himself out of his wife's hair ! Perfect - he's been one of the finds of our job - a real gem. Really appreciate all the advice - I'm going over to see how monk0104 is getting on with her kitchen plan. What fun this is !!...See MoreWhat colour should I paint bedroom fireplace and wardrobes?
Comments (16)Hello Nicola E, How you treat the paint work entirely depends on what you want to stand out.. The fireplace or the wardrobes.. This too depends on what else is happening in the room... If just a bed then it's entirely possible to create a feature of said wardrobes by painting them a bolder colour or the chimney breast a darker colour.. Look at the room and consider what you'd like to have as a focal point and how big the room is.. Shades of cream and off whites are far nicer than white.. So if you decide to include a white scheme, definitely look at shades of off white and creams.. Little Greene has a lovely range of chalky colours.. such as Whitening, White Lead, Stock etc.. These can be chosen for wood and walls.... They give a warm, chalky and sophisticated look which can blend beautifully with colours such as Celestial blue or James just to talk of blue and these are warm not cold blues .. I also like Juniper Ash which is a slightly mauve colour but look for warm versions of a colour you like.. So if the fireplace is to stand out and the wardrobes are a pale creamy colour the accent and focus is the fireplace which will benefit if the room is smaller than you'd like.. If you have a large bed then this might be the best way to consider it. If the room is large and you want something to create a statement then consider the fireplace and wardrobes.. A shade or two darker for wardrobes than chimney breast will create a frame surrounding both the fireplace and for the bed if this is facing on the opposite wall.. Blend the bedding and cushions, should you choose them into the scheme to create a cohesive and stylish finish. Lastly if you want a pale room with painted wardrobes these will form a statement and frame if you have less in the room... : )) Blended.... Contrast... This one isn't a bedroom but you get the idea.....See Moremaster bedroom overhaul
Comments (5)I found your description a tad confusing? A picture will help. I have built in wardrobes on the right of my bedroom as you enter. The bed is in the middle facing the window facing NE There is a dressing table under the window. I think all you want can easily be done....See MoreAnthony (Beano)
