Needing exterior colour inspiration
Comments (26)Thank you so much that was really kind of you! Darker fascias make a surprising amount of difference, which I really like, and I can see how it anchors the roofline back down on the windows. I am pleased we decided not to switch the windows immediately as I can get the outside sorted and may be back pedalling and keeping dark ones even if we do replace them. The green/grey is lovely, the house is in a small village in rolling fields cow countryside rather than the higher sheep mountain country so as you can see in window there are a lot of trees around. The colour seems to settle the house nicely into that kind of environment. My list at the moment is now looking like -Remove stone around windows -Balance the new plainer wall with something tall -Darken the fascia/gutter -Fresher base tone paint - nothing creamy - looking to chalky/grey/green -Pop the front door :D -Poke around at the base of the house to see if the lawn can be pulled back a bit in front of the central wing. (haha - giving a bungalow wings - but you know what I mean!)...See MoreHouse Exterior
Comments (14)Hey, I generally agree with Jonathan about semi's looking best when they're not desperately different. That said I think there's more leeway with these style and age properties because they weren't built with so many defining features in the first place. In many respects it's a blank canvas and invites some creativity from its owner to provide more character. I also personally prefer wooden windows to UPVC ones but again in this age property it's expected and very practical. I do like the bay and that it sets it aside a little from norm :). I also can't really see the point spending a lot to replace what are perfectly functional windows and ultimately it won't add value to the property whereas I would argue a proper brick porch would. I actually tried the heritage olive green Suki when I was playing around but felt leaving it white actually looked best. I'll try and remember to post some more images tomorrow with the green option and grey as lopezo suggested so everyone can see what they like. One of the things I like about this forum is that you get such a variety of ideas and views. I work as a luxury goods designer so am very familiar with Photoshop and quite enjoy roughing up these sorts of things. Looking at 'inspiration' images is never quite the same as seeing how ideas will work on your own house....See MoreHow can I make our bland 1970's exterior more appealing?!
Comments (12)It all comes down to budget as always. The bigger the budge the more you can do. I would be really mindful of the fact, that if you change the facade, it would be better if you could change the windows. The wood cladding I agree would look fabulous, you could have the bottom a lovely grey to tone in. However, neither will look good with bog standard white windows, as both look better with a dark grey, thinner Aluminium Frame or a Chunkier Sandy Beige Frame. When you add white windows, the effect is not quite so slick The pic above shows the white windows with the cladding and it would look a lot better with the darker, thinner frames. If you can't afford to change or colour bond the windows, then maybe go for all over colour, a dark grey would be good, and consider changing the Front door for impact. Alternatively, work towards doing the ultimate change. The vertical wood cladding, with a grey underneath and a door to match the wood. Thinner dark pewter aluminium framed windows etc. sorry about the mock up quality!...See MoreUpdating 70's facade - inspiration needed!
Comments (9)Hi, Take a look at this website: http://www.backtofrontexteriordesign.com/ They have loads of fabulous examples. I'd be happy to mock something up for you, but have a couple of busy days ahead, so not much time left over for having fun with photoshop ;-) Will see what I can do if I have a spare hour or so....See Morekazzh
