Extractor fans - Bora and Downdraft
Comments (4)Hi The Bora was the big purchase for me. I have the simple model. I have it on the island and have a vaulted ceiling above it which meant that a ceiling extractor would not work. I love the Bora, the fan extraction is very effective if a shade noisier than I had hoped but very much quieter than my old extraction hood. The house is free from cooking smells and there is less grease to be cleaned from tops of walI cabinets etc. It is simple to use and as the extractor fan is operated from the same set of buttons as the hob it goes on sooner and more often. I got the system that ducts outside (the piping is invisible, under the kitchen floor). The hob top extractor fan filter goes straight in the dishwasher - the whole hob is easy clean. It was installed by my own kitchen fitter with no problems. Beware the ducting pipes are extra and not cheap....See MoreExtractor Hood.... integrated ceiling or an island hood?
Comments (7)I don't have one in my island unit. I had one many years ago and didn't think it was effective. This afternoon I've been out to quote on kitchen worktops and they had a wide chimney island extractor over their 5 ring gas hob. To me it stood out like a sore thumb. I certainly couldn't get used to it (especially as a person who doesn't have or like them). I felt as though I would bash my head on it. Based on that I'd opt for something in the ceiling so it's not blocking any view....See MoreKitchen Extractor for Asian open plan kitchen
Comments (15)Ok, so I appreciate that these two are not easy to compare. There must be a way however of testing them both fairly and get results that give the consumer an idea of comparison. "..we extract at the point the vapour is produced 100% effectively". I take it with this you mean the extraction is 100% effective and not the vapour produced is 100% effective. What does "100% effectively" mean? It seems to suggest that the cooking smells are completely emitted. This is surely disingenuous or at the least misleading....See MoreDowndraft cooker extractors
Comments (4)Having the extra carbon filter fitted to convert an extractor to recirculating mode makes very little difference to the power/efficiency of any extractor, but you have to change the carbon filter as required so you do have a small extra cost (as opposed to a grease filter which is usually washable). But extraction is also governed by building regs part F and if its a kitchen extension you may have to add further ventilation (minimum 60 lit/sec), if its a refurbishment so long as you only had a recirculating extractor previously and the ventilation hasn't been made worse then a recirculating extractor is all thats required....See MoreKay Moden
