What Type of sash window furniture
Comments (2)I opt for Brighton's generally on the grounds of tamper proof and strong. You don't need quite the same tolerance on the meeting rail height which can be handy at times (especially when some windows are hard to align) My supplier does a locking version which is popular now. The single catch (any catch) will be weak on its own so i'd suggest applying vent bolts also. These can be fitted on two stages (dead lock or vent) and basically give each sash three point locking in dead stage, and limit opening height at the vent stage. Hope this helps...See MoreWhich shade of white satin for exterior Victorian Sash Window?
Comments (9)Hi Daniel, I would propose a couple of things here. Firstly, if you own the property, pressure washing the stock bricks is what is truly needed here. Unfortunately this isn't a "cheap" solution, because you will also have to repoint with what looks like lime mortar. But this will give you that stunning exterior that you are looking for and means the crisp white windows will look spectacular and you will be very proud of your gorgeous home. If you need a quick fix however and a much cheaper solution you will unfortunately be matching to "dirt". That is fine as long as you appreciate that the colour of your bricks is not their natural tone (I always kind of liked the old London stock brick look anyway) and you can use it to play an industrial edge to your look (if that is your thing). In terms of paint colours, I have a few choices for you. I would always try these in situ and see how they look (because depending on the direction your house faces, the colour of the paint and everything that it is reflecting around it will impact the end result). That is why you are getting that grey look to your crisp bright white. I made a mood board for you, so that you could visualise what I mean a little better. I hope this helped you. Good luck! P.S. I love your house!...See MoreMassive renovation in West London : which colour box sash windows?
Comments (21)Thank you verdigrisjane. I understand your reservations but also it is brave to take the plunge. Especially if no one else on your street has it. We have decided with white as it needs to visually be in context with the other houses. If we has a larger facade or we not part of a building I would have opted for the braver charcoal choice. But I am happy with our decision....See Morerenovate existing sash windows and add secondary glazing v replace
Comments (12)Depending on the condition of the windows, if they are timber you may be able to double glaze the existing windows as opposed to replacing them. Secondary glazing is often preferred in listed buildings, where you may not be allowed to install double glazing. Where double glazing is allowed, most people will opt for double glazing rather than secondary glazing. Below are some links you may find useful: Should I Replace Single Glazed Sash Windows with Double Glazed Sash Windows? What are the benefits of sash window secondary glazing? Repair or replace infographic Regarding the later discussions on the thread about plastic vs. timber, I would definitely recommend choosing timber rather than plastic. Not only are timber windows more environmentally friendly than plastic windows (when using sustainable timber), but if you live in a period home, plastic windows will often devalue the property. We regularly have home buyers asking for budget prices to replace plastic windows with timber windows so they can ask for money off the asking price. I'm not sure where you are based? If you are based in London or Southern England, and would like someone to have a look at your windows and advise you what would be possible, we would be happy to provide you with a free, no obligation quotation.
