How can I lay out my lounge to look more sociable with seating

Can you help with my lounge. I have the chance to decorate. The carpet is very light beige, currently walls are natural calico and soft stone on fireplace wall. My first question is the seating isn't great when got visitors as whoever gets the armchair is too far from everyone else. Would the TV be better suited in the opposite corner (by window) to where it currently is and move sofa to front of main window? Space is awkward with 2 doors and 3 windows in it to position furniture. It currently looks a bit long and narrow. 3 seater is 198cm, 2 seater 131cm & armchair 108cm. Room is 5.5m x 3.5m. What colour would you use?

Comments (10)I would start with her bedroom, that's the area she wil rest. Keep it neutral and and peaceful. Make the curtains cheerful that will be the first thing she'll see when she wakes up. A four feet bed will be comfortable for her and find out how much it will cost to raise the bed ...at a certain age it is more comfortable to get in and out of. Table lamps which by a touch will light up a big alarm clock... Older people always want to know the time! Two bedside tables. Soft carpet for her feet and a big collage on the wall with photos of her family. I would get rid of the wardrobe is is so huge and if you look on your local ebay and put you postcode in you will be able to get a good bargain. Look for a comfy chair too with a floorlight for reading. If space a nice little table (local ebay) will make it complete. Your mum prefers her wall painted but again a roll of cheerful wallpaper for one wall in her bedroom will make it special for her. Try to get rid of all the clutter like those two shopping trolleys perhaps in a cupboard in the hall? I have done a lot of houses up on a shoestring and it is a challenge but can be so satisfying. One thing I have learnt ....ALWAYS finish one room completely before going on to the next room. It helps when you feel a bit down about the project and one look in the finished room gives one a big boost to continue!!! Comments (4)Hi. I would do something like the attached which isn't particularly to scale but existing bed 2 has been reduced to 10x10. I'd only make the bathroom a bit bigger unless you want to widen it by taking a little from the new Master bedroom. Move the bath down 20-30cm and have shelves built in floor to ceiling for storage. If you wanted you could have pocket doors from the lounge through to the office (with sofa bed) so you can open the whole lot up for entertaining etc. if you do that just think about resale ie accessing bedroom from lounge unless you do convert the loft so it won't end up being a bedroom. I'd buy a unit to house the tv and books. Maybe think about a dining table that can double up as prep area. In any case I'd get one with a bench seat that slides under on the kitchen side to save space. I'm not a pro though so just my thoughts!...See MoreHow can I make my living room look less cluttered?
Comments (16)Liking the eclectic look! You do have a fair amount of furniture in the space, but I think with the look you’re going for it can work well, its just learning how to work with it. I don’t think it looks cluttered at all. At present, besides the furniture, the room is fairly simple and so your eyes are mostly drawn to all the furniture. I’m thinking if you add in some accessories here and there, it will help to create interest and change the focus. It’s a great way to tie everything in together without using an area rug. For example, adding some feature wall art above the sofa, whether that be one stand alone piece or a cluster of a few. Or how about adding a nice red throw over the sofa to tie in with the red chair? Adding plants/flowers on top of furniture are always great options as others have suggested. Your oval footstool is a lovely piece. Maybe you could add a tray on it with some accessories on? In terms of creating more storage, maybe you could have a think about open shelves and find some interesting ways to display your items. But the bookcase is lovely too!
