hi there, we’re in brookwood Surrey- could you come to quote?

Our house is in gu24 0ad and we’re looking for fence panels along at least one side of the garden. Would be happy to let you in round the side to observe social distancing etc - seeing if you come out this way at all?

Thanks for getting in touch! We work in your area, however we undertake much larger construction projects than what you have planned. For fencing only works it will be better to search online for a local fencing specialist.

Mylands. You always regret your economies. I've repainted this kitchen 4X over the years, and last time was in Dulux which wore so poorly. Just custom mixed a new vibrant duck egg to paint my kitchen in marble matt walls, eggshell woodwork, and floor paint. Mylands matched impeccably. It was a dream of coverage, and looks spectacular. The quality of the pigment shows, looks the money, nothing like synthetic mediocre pigments in cheaper paint. It's a big improvement.

I would echo pretty much all the above, which highlights numerous issues. There is no disputing the benefit of a senior architect where money is no object, and you are in a position to appoint them to make regular site visits. Unfortunately, this is not always the case, and the initial design intent is lost, resulting in decisions being made by the builder that jeopardise the overall result. Approaching a builder as the first point of contact carries considerable risks. As stated previously, they will tweak the budget to suit the figure you disclose at the quoting stage, and strive to maximise profit - during the build by using cheaper products (typically promotion at builders merchants, e.g. flooring). Design and build companies often tend to be a general builder who has a relationship with a architectural technician who will draw up plans to suit the builder ... facilitating the project being completed in the quickest time, with the greatest profit. This will typically be achieved using bog standard products available at builders merchants. This may suit many, but perhaps the fact that you are even on this site suggests you maybe after something a little bit more special. The immediate example that springs to mind are doors/windows and kitchens; items that can be sourced at builders merchants, but by up-speccing slightly to independent sources will greatly enhance the finished result I am a great believer that you do not require too many 'wow factors' in a space. Everyone's aspirations will differ, but common themes include maximising natural light and improving the flow. A good designer/architect will prise out what is important to the client, ensure these needs are addressed, and introduce elements the client wasn't expecting, e.g. lighting, storage. BEWARE! Some designers/architects may have aspirations to achieve awards, experiment with emerging products, or simply specify high-end products for every item, which may stray from the initial brief and completely break the budget. I would suggest a young architectural practice may be most suitable for your project. The chances are they would be not only more cost-effective, but the designs more cost-sensitive (possibly having recent experience on their own properties). They would possibly be particularly keen to ensure the design intent is not lost by making more regular site visits to ensure they have high-quality projects as they build their portfolio. Hi all, Thank you so much for all the helpful comments and suggestions, and sorry that it's taken me so long to respond - house renovation and work have been keeping us on our toes! This has become a long post, so a quick reminder - we were looking to renovate and rewire our 60s house to update it and also make it more wheelchair friendly downstairs for when my mother-in-law comes to visit. We employed an architect and came up with what turned out to be an 'aspirational' design (much more than the budget!) so we ended up deciding to split things into two stages: Stage One to add a downstairs wetroom for accessibility, remove chimney throughout and add a porch Stage Two to do the extension across the rear, removing the conservatory to open out a large kitchen/diner and add a utility room The layout below shows both Stages One and Two as complete. Bits shown in red are existing walls which have been/will be removed (apart from the wall in red in the seating area below which is between the existing kitchen and dining room - that's a mistake). So.....the building work is now done - hurray! Stage One is complete, we are much poorer, and we now need to decorate the whole house :-) Some before and after photos below - please bear with the terrible photography skills. The rooms aren't big enough to allow for expansive photos!: We've re-plastered throughout, apart from in the kitchen and upstairs bathroom, as we'll deal with those later. Current challenge is deciding how on earth to pick paint colours and flooring throughout.... Anyway - hopefully that gives you a sense of where we've got to. Best wishes

For 9 units in total and bearing in mind they are already assembled I think it’s expensive. I presume there would be plumbing and depending on whether the hob is gas or electric may include the services of a Gas Safe registered person. So 9 units and associated worktops which may require a joint and cut outs for sink and hob. Splashbacks can be fiddly to fit and cut to a shape. However prices do depend on where you live. For instance London will be expensive. Disposal would mean the hire of a skip but their price for this may be more if you are not on the ground floor as it may be labour intensive dragging items down stairs. I would have though this could be done within the week and if so £3k is expensive. I would look around and seek alternative quotes. Sometimes areas have their FB local site (mine has) and people regularly ask on them for recommendations.
