fitting new showers on existing tiling

I am looking to modernise the shower fittings pictured. Is it at all possible to do without requiring new tiling to be purchased?

Or should I accept the fact that I may need replacement white tiles to fit

Even if you find the same tiles, I doubt they would be identical. I would probably splurge for new tile in the entire bathroom. If that is not an option, you could replace only the tile in the actual shower with an accent or something that really pops. Use that colour for the accents in your bathroom as well! If you decide on the latter, I would just be sure that the tiles you choose for the shower are a different shape from the ones in the remainder of the bathroom. That way it will really stand out. I think you could change the shower enclosure and tray quite easily. Grouting can also be spruced up by scrubbing with bleach and a small brush/toothbrush. Leave it for a few minutes and then scrub and rinse. Tile shops are full of beige/brown tiles so I’m sure you could find similar in case any get broken. If you want a good choice of showers go to either a bathroom specialist or a plumbers merchant (no showrooms but huge range!). I’ve never used bushboard but it looks good. They’re like big sheets of waterproof boards to line the shower with. Yes a full refurb is expensive. Mine cost £6000 all in, phew! This is bushboard and it comes in several shades.

Thank you all for your comments. Very much appreciated. My wife is ruling out wood because she doesn't like the look of wood in kitchens and because we have solid wood flooring in the rest of the downstairs area and she thinks it will clash. Picture below of where out kitchen meets the hallway. Also we bought some more of those tiles yesterday to get more of a feel of what it'll look like. It does look pretty good but it does worry us about what type of table and appliance colours we will be able to get and really making it all look a bit drab perhaps? We are leaning towards sticking with relaying the same times the house already has as we have been unable to find any better looking light grey tiles. We do really like them.

I would go with full height marble on the floor & walls; with 1 wall fish scale wall in the shower & a fish scale splash back above the basin. It will look fabulous. It’s important to keep the marble subtle to allow the fish scale features to stand out & so that you can bring in some coloured accessories & towels too. I think metro tiles along with fish scales would be too busy. What colour vanity unit have you gone for? We had arabesque tiles in the past which aren’t too dissimilar in shape & size. A couple of tilers were negative & generally ‘whingey’ about them, so we got more quotes & found someone who was enthusiastic & happy to do the job. They looked great. Yes they take a little longer than larger tiles because there are more of them, but that’s the only reason. You only have 1 wall so it really isn’t a big deal & you shouldn’t feel like it is when paying someone to do a job (tradesmen grr!) Are you sure about only half height tiling? Just my opinion, but I think that is a little dated now. Cleaner & more contemporary to go full height. And no problems with trying to find the right paint colour!
