Ok to combine steel glass & aluminium in same room ?

Hi all

im just undergoing an extension and plan to put a large crittal screen on the back of the wall that is about 5m wide and 3m high.

along with this there will be a set of french double opening doors to the side of the box.

as the u value is pretty bad on steel glass (I’m looking at the w20 non thermal break versio) I wanted to improve the thermal properties a little by using aluminium triple glazing elsewhere?

that would include a large window 3m high and 2m wide - as well as a long letterbox window 3.6m wide and 0.6m high

My only worry is combining the two ? Would it be noticeable do you think ?

the aliminium would be recessed into the wall so minimal frames on show .. do I guess its not really an issue- but Id like to know everyone’s thoughts on it

I would make the colour of the frames the same and check in elevation what it's going to look like. You can mix and match different frame sizes and styles, but need to handle it well to work. Using the same colour can help though. Alternatively making a bold feature of the difference and using strongly different colours or a colour to pick out the one you want to highlight and more neutrals for the others. Basically draw it out in elevation and play around with it until you like it.

I actually planned on doing frameless recessed everywhere else so it would just be glass on show there theoretically - and black frame to make for anything visible, so I guess it should marry up ok ?

So funny! I'm planning to paint the bannister at the new house (TNH) black and am veering towards painting the treads and risers black too... I've been searching for images of black staircases on Houzz and putting them in my entrance hall ideabook. They are few and far between. In your case, I think, with your white walls, maybe the stairs white and the bannister black? (Assuming the white walls continue up the stair walls enabling the b/w contrast.) You've already put black firmly into the equation, adding some more may give more reason for the black rad cab. In my case, there is a very off-centre radiator that could so very easily have been directly opposite the front door in TNH which is rather annoying as it stuffs up the focal point. We are leaving here with every radiator covered with a cabinet - and going to TNH that has loads of radiators ...but no cabinets! Yes, the work ahead is daunting - especially since the area of Ireland we're going to is very basic and not full of DIY resources, etc. I keep thinking I'll paint TNH white - to make things simpler(!) But try as I may colour keeps wandering through my mind! Lovely to be in touch again!

Glass partition between hall and living room - must be fireproof

We'll have a "broken plan" layout between the kitchen and living room, so I think the reason for the partition to the hall needing to be fireproof is because of the kitchen. If you imagine a rectangle divided into quarters, the hall is in the bottom left. and it has a normal fire door to the kitchen in the top left. But the kitchen is semi-open to a dining area in the top right, and that's semi-open to the living room in the bottom right. I think in order to stop any chance of fire spreading from the kitchen to the hall we need to have a fireproof boundary between the living room and hall. Thanks for letting me know how much your wood partition cost. That's certainly an option. I take it that the wood is fireproof?

ok I've just bought this sofa to go with my feature wall so was hoping I could get a colour recommendation for the colour of my other 3 walls. i cant get to a paint shop now as i was planning and cant find anything on internet about numbers of colour suggested so was really hoping for some names of paint preferably in dulux/crown as they seem to be more in my budget, then I can order online. I've got some of the samples come through but I cant seem to see the undertones in any light properly, it's my eyesight, need to get eyes tested. would you be able to help.
