Is it worth it?
Hello houzzers, we had plans to change the layout of our house to make good use of space. But Due to Covid 19, the work couldn’t go on as planned. Having stayed home for all these weeks has given us a different idea as to how we actually use the space. We have realised that we spend more time at the back which is the living room and the garden room.We are now confused between moving the kitchen to the now garden room and opening it up with the lounge to have a bigger open plan kitchen dinner and family room or just going ahead with the previous plan of knocking the wall between the kitchen and the room next to it to have a kitchen dinner.The kitchen needs an update for sure so will be changing it anyway. We don’t want to make costly mistake so need opinion on it from Houzzers who have done similar renovations. Is the kitchen/ dining/ family space worth it. Any opinions and ideas will be much appreciated.

Comments (3)Howdens doors are thicker and twice as heavy as wickes doors ( literally ), I believe they are supposed to be of a more solid construction. Thus, they are less prone to warping. The amount of lip you have when trimming however is only 10mm on a Howdens door compared to a 20mm on a Wickes door. This needs to be taken in to consideration, you've got less wood to play with on the Howdens door if your frames aren't true ( they rarely are ). The choice is yours at the end of the day, but in answer to the question are Howdens better doors, yes, possibly. However, i'd ask what their guarantee is like in both shops............I don't know the answer. If it were me, i'd probably still go for the Wickes door at the end of the day, money is money and it's not like they're utter rubbish, they're still great doors and are FSC Certified, so they can't be that bad, I've fitted many and have never had a problem with them....See MoreCopper island top - worth doing?!

Comments (3)Can you uploads some photos, inside & out? Also from a few times in the day (morning/noon/evening?) It depends as much on what is around you (buildings, trees etc) as the location/orientation. Costs of roof lanterns, fully installed, are not cheap, and the amount of disruption not insignificant, depending on how the roof is constructed. Any time you add such a "penetration" gives an additional potential leak point for your roof. While we are involved with installations with such features, usually it is only done when the roof is being replaced in full, or an extension added. Other options to consider are light tubes - or just really excellent feature & mood lighting. While there are ongoing running costs, you have to get through a lot of electricity & bulbs to get close to the cost of your roof lantern!...See More
