Hello,

Looking for replace gate due to age however the wall isn't in the best shape so I'm looking for gate hinges that would fit the old once. However I'm having no luck finding the right shape, does anyone know what they are called and the best place to get them from ?

Ash,

you would need to get a local metal worker to make you replacement hinges, as they are made for the gate you had. if you take the gate you could probably get it repaired.

Shed is black now and looks much better. I am deliberating on whether to paint the doors black or another colour. The planters or stands are clay and lavender, the inside of the shed is silver birch but looks grey mauve in daylight. I've started to paint the fence black too and quite like the "aged" look of the green coming through. I'm waiting for a quote on the hard landscaping and wish he'd hurry as I can only start the planting once it's agreed.

Hi Sam, you've made a good start with taking the wall lower down. I agree that it makes the garden look smaller. I don't think you'll need to do much to make it look good. Firstly I would concentrate on the brick patio. Give it a good clean with pressure washer and re mortar the jointing. Should come up a treat. Also not keen on the concrete slips that are on the step up to the patio (can see in bottom left of first photo), perhaps you could re use the bricks from the wall to replace these and build slightly higher than the patio but leave a gap for entry. Can see that the wall between lawn and patio (even now its lower) can be used for a raised bed, I'd continue to do this and plant in it a good variety of low growing alpines, ajuga and campanula spring to mind. Other than that, paint the fence and shed, new turf and some potted plants and it should look good. When you say the shed isn't weather proof is the roof leaking? Is there any guttering? Seems like a solid building so could be that it just needs new roofing felt unless there's rising damp issues? Anyway hope to have been of some help.

Hi, we've recently purchased a new build house and we're struggling a bit with how to configure the garden due to the way it slopes. It's essentially just a 10m x 10m square at the moment with a few squares of pavement, and a slope from the top left towards the house and to the right fence. (see pics) We're trying to work with the level as much as possible to reduce the cost of levelling, and we're thinking of a deck in the top right (sunspot), and a raised lawn in the top left, with some steps and sleeper beds / steps around the garden to support it. (see drawing) Does anyone with any garden experience have any thoughts on how feasible something like this would be and how much it would roughly cost? Or any alternative ideas for the garden? We have a dog so a lawn is essential, and a deck or patio in the top right is pretty much a given for us. Any ideas/design tips would really be appreciated! We're looking for something quite modern, ideally with levels to create interest and reduce the levelling costs (if this even achieves that?)
