Comments (44)HiTino Felly, Marie Here. Your off to a great start - but you've made a common mistake in that you've found your inspiration for your colour palette, but your not committing to it. You need to bring the greens and blues up onto the walls and onto the floor - commit to it. You could: - add a great throw rug underneath the bed, - add big table lamp beside the bed - or better yet, a wall sconce, - drapery isn't really the best choice for this bedding - I would have brought in a bold graphic print here, in either the blue or the green - artwork can stay neutral - even do a collection of mixed metals in chrome, gold, and have fun with that - if you add too much in the blue and green it becomes boring and un-special. Choose your accessories carefully, I'd change out your drapery - go with something bolder, I'd also get a larger night stand so you could put a proper table lamp there. Good Luck!...See MoreWhat do I do Will my kitchen be too long
Comments (2)How about have the central units/island going a bit longer to separate the kitchen and dining room a little more and don't put the extra cabinets on the right hand side wall which seem to invade into the sitting room area. In an open plan setting it's always good to maintain definition between the spaces. So keep your sitting room area clearly that & lengthen the central island in your kitchen. It'll look lovely...See MoreKerb appeal advice. What do I do with the front of my house?
Comments (25)Sorry I was slow on the uptake. It makes sense now that it is the external door that will need to open outwards if the double doors are replaced with a single. Hence the double doors! I think I go along with the view to remove the external double doors and have an open porch. To avoid confusion the side door would somehow need to look less prominent. I fitted solid oak windows and doors in my last house because I didn’t want to use tropical woods. That was way back in 1994 when environmentalists such as I were considered cranks. The builders certainly thought so. They were more expensive but not by a huge amount. Certainly not considering their longevity. I left in 2017 and they were still in pristine condition and will no doubt still be in another twenty years so certainly worth the investment. I used Sikkins to protect them which was easily applied with a paint brush. In all that time I only had to reapply one coat to the external surfaces twice and once to the internal window sills. No sanding required just a wash down before applying. Not labour intensive by any means....See MoreWhat could I do to my 1950s bannisters?
Comments (5)My parents had the same wall on thier stairs. We always thought it was structural as it was made from concrete blocks. One summer we decided to take out just the upstairs section and replace with a banister, but after starting the work realised it was not structural at all just really over engineered (typical 1950s!). It wasn't supporting the floor upstairs or even the stairs themselves. Anyway we took the whole thing out and replaced with handrail and square spindles. Completely changed the feel of using the stairs and the hallway downstairs. Also the same wall carried on into the kitchen to form a pantry which we also removed. That really opened up the kitchen too....See MoreVictoria
