TV Positioning Dilemma

We are converting a square double garage with vaulted ceiling and plan on incorporating a corner sofa facing the fireplace and the french doors.

Ideally I would like a low narrow fireplace with the tv mounted at eye level centrally above this but am very concerned about the glare from the windows where the garage doors were previously, directly opposite.

The backup plan would be in the corner between the fireplace and french doors. I could wait until the room is complete to decide but would probably choose a different fireplace if the tv isn't above it.

What would you do?

I remember this house.... isn’t there a bedroom above the garage? Aren’t you actually going to have a low ceiling? I ask because you employ tricks to make the room seem taller if you have to.
But given your stated dilemma of glare consider putting the TV and fireplace side by side

It's worth considering what time of day the glare will be an issue? Is that a time of day when you're likely to be watching TV? Asking so that you can quantify how big an issue this is and therefore how much do you want it to dictate your plans? Our living room has bright sun for a few hours in the morning which does cause glare for that short time. We have shutters which we angle to avoid the glare. By midday the sun had moved over the house and it's no longer an issue.

Is that a chimney to the left ? Maybe a low cabinet or lift up box to safely cover the electrics . Then the TV on the flat wall on an angle bracket that can be positioned to suit ?! Toddlers might decide to climb on box to get closer to tv though !! They can be resourceful !!! Love your orange chairs by the way !!!

I think a concept planner like OnePlan would be invaluable because you would better be able to visualise the options you have. Personally I think that you should take another pass at the kitchen design with the help of a professional as the current kitchen shape will feel very small despite it being a bigger room. I think the breakfast bar is an issue with the current hob placement, I think the work area feels narrow, the distance between the sink and the hob ( which is the area where most prep happens) is relatively small and if it were me I would put the sink on the utility wall so that any mess is partly shielded from view from the living room at least. Personally I would be looking for a three seat sofa and a two seat plus footstool for maximum flexibility. A concept planner would also be able to help you envisage furniture sizes and layout so you know how big to purchase- after all 3 seat sofas range in size from 180cm to 280cm. You might also want to consider TV position in the living room. I suspect you are removing the chimney breast as once extended the chimney would no longer be central to the room- but perhaps you can save that money and put the TV and a fire side by side.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies. Impressive memory Jonathan, but yes the plans have of course changed. The room above is now going and it will be a vaulted double height living space!

I think your picture of the tv by the side of the fireplace might have to be the approach, but perhaps on the extended fireplace and angled into the room rather than wall mounted.

The opposing windows are south facing so the sun moves across the sky directly outside for most of the day, it is probably high enough to not shine directly on the tv opposite but will make the windows a bright reflection!
