Design/Install of a Raised Height (elevated) Dishwasher

We’re very keen to have a raised height Dishwasher so that we needn’t lean over as much to load/unload the bottom shelf.

Almost none of the bog-standard Kitchen suppliers (Wren, Howdens, Ikea...) seem to do this as standard, but it’s surely pretty easy to modify their plans and units so that it does? Does anyone have experience of doing this and can offer any advice?

I too would like this placement of dishwasher.

Awaiting a design from our kitchen planner to include this. It only needs to be a big drawer amount off the ground to be helpful I think.

The lines of Wren, Howdens etc offer the most bog standard ideas and designs. If it’s not straight forward they won’t include it. Look at alternative independent suppliers who think outside the box. I can’t see a problem as long as it’s supported.

The design layout could do with changing if this is a two chef kitchen - as currently hob and sink share same floor standing space, the DW when open blocks the walkway - oven is danger to anyone opening door... The FF is not what you want - the list goes on !!! Difficult to help further with no sizes - I could guess from the doors - but no head on shot of the right wall so a bit tricky - this could be a 'very quick' job as a sketch consult on an hourly rate, if you want pro help - drop me an email ! If you were thinking of using ikea for example - you could buy and have installed the carcase's, drawers, worktop, sink and appliances and then add the facia fronts as and when you have spare cash - this would stretch your money a little further ... £4k is still a lot of money - invest it wisely !

@pete_bon_9838, @brian_impey, synthetic = plastic in the sense you use it. Polymer. Stretchy molecules. Plastic is acceptable as a material these days, mainly because it has well proven properties in a wide range of applications across a variety of the polymers blessed by the expression. Synthetic comes across more as, hum, well, synthetic? Pretend. Not substantial. Fly-by-night. Pixel imagery without substance maybe? The best plastic decking manufacturer I am aware of uses the word plastic in its name and would not dream of using the word synthetic. Come to think of it, when describing anything of substance, neither would I. Lecture over. 'night folks. :-)

Hi - we had a similar problem as sloping gardens can be the norm in South Wales! We originally had wooden decking - which as everyone has said has maintenance and slipping issues - but changed to composite decking after about 10 years. This is terrific as it's non slip and so easy to brush down. The only thing you need to be careful with is rust which can mark it. Having said that if you love wood there are non slip solutions that are quite effective. With regard to the sides we have glass and covered metal supports which not only stop small children flying off the edge but also add a decorative finish. The beams underneath the decking raise it to the same level as the patio doors so it's quite seamless moving from house to garden. The beams are protected by the decking so they just needed a top up coat of something that smelled disgusting when we replaced the wood with plastic. There are two steps down to the garden and again we've never had any problems as they are quite wide and deep. Oh! And I have had a number of cats living here and expected to find corpses of the rats someone else mentioned...nothing just the fattest spiders you've ever seen. Yuck! Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I'm one of the interior designers here at Baked and both previous comments are most likely bang on the mark. But you can very simply still unite all the spaces with the use of the same floor finish. I have a step up into my kitchen, which is part of an open plan flow from hall into casual dining/ living apace, as it was the most cost effective way to get water to my island. I love the variation in level, it adds interest and zones the various open plan areas. I have the same flooring running though and it all looks fab! I can see a few ways to do this,

Probably the easiest way is to have an extra deep larder tower made thats about 700 or 800 wide, fit a shelf at the height you want and strengthen it to take the weight of the dishwasher when loaded, fit another shelf above the dishwasher to stop it from accidently tipping and then just slide in a freestanding dishwasher, make sure there's ventilation in the unit and its done.

Another way would be to use the drawer type dishwashers that Fisher and Paykel (599mm wide) make, these can have integrated made to measure fronts fitted and then stand this on a low single drawer cabinet made to the height you want the dishwasher to stand, clad this with tower decor panels so you can then fix a top cupboard above the dishwasher and it will look like a larder with drawers at the bottom.

The difficulty would be trying to use a standard integrated dishwasher as these don't fit in a unit either as they're about 597mm wide and the door is fitted to the front. When you open the door it swings down and the bottom of the door arcs inwards, sometimes even the plinth needs to be cut to allow for this, if you stood this on a cabinet you wouldn't have any plinth, but a dummy panel which is flush with the door fronts and as the machine door swings down the bottom of the integrated facia would catch on the dummy frontal and so wouldn't open. But there are a few integrated washing machines that can overcome this as they're used when you have an inframe kitchen and skirting plinth (ie the plinth is flush with the bottom of doors and not stepped behind) and the swing action of the door as you open it the door lifts up as it swings forward so the bottom of the door doesn't catch on anything.

So as Daisy has said there's no point going into the sheds, all you'll get is a blank look from the sales person as the computer says 'no' you really need to go to a decent independant and get something bespoke which doesn't have to be overly expensive and you'll need a decent fitter as well.
