I love the simplicity of the white wall lights - where are they from?

I don't mind the current colours although a greys and beiges tend to suck light out of a room, a brighter colour rather than just white will help. I agree with much of what Jill says above, with a few tweaks ... the lighting needs attention. The room needs some interest, colour and texture to create depth. Get a larger rug, more colourful, with organic pattern which draws the eye outward. Big enough to sit the furniture on. Pick up some of the colours from the new rug and get some cushions. A couple of plants would help with texture and add life to the room. I know you are using the mirrors to add light and space but the one under the stairs is just reflecting the underneath of the stairs ... try a colourful print of a pathway between trees for example, to draw the eye beyond the room otherwise it's a bit bland. The TV is just on a stand that is too small and a bit low, go for a wider piece or try positioning the unit against the other wall in that same corner so it is facing the sofas, then the TV won't look so out of balance. If you make the room a bit livelier and interesting the light issue won't be such a problem. Consider pale turquoise walls for example rather than just white and add some artwork.

I have black granite work tops and a huge amount of them and an island - my reason for choosing is that I believe granite is a lot stronger in the dark colours where as marble is stronger in the light colours - I am (hope husband doesn't see this!) a little bit bored of the black work tops - they are classic but a bit dead - next time, if there is ever a next time, I would not play so safe and would go for light work tops with a bit more interest. I would steer clear of work tops unless you are prepared to really look after them and treat them regularly! As for walls - I would go light - and ensure it is a paint that you can wash splattering off! Not a basic emulsion! That way, by going light you can change colour of kitchen accessories at any time to freshen it up and update it. If I was planning a new kitchen now, I would probably go for light tops with up stands and then have a feature surface in a different material - perhaps a rounded wooden block at the end of a unit as a feature. I love my kitchen but I have played it a bit safe, on reflection!!

'Intense White' from Benjamin Moore's Timeless Neutral range would work wonderfully with your white kitchen and Revere Pewter in the Hall. Just be sure to paint a sample on to the wall in the kitchen, and look at the colour in daylight and night light. The bluish tinge glass will change the colour of the paint slightly.

Hi, Loving the new extension, looks like a well thought out well executed project. I have just completed a house in the Lakes, the scheme was almost identical to yours....White with black / dark grey frames. I specified Delta Light Montur fittings: Reasons: 1 A choice of finishes, I went for "Graphite" which is a very dark grey with a slight metallic texture. 2 The lights are expensive but, in my opinion, the standard of finish is the best money can buy. They will handle the British weather easily protecting your investment for years to come. 3 They do a full range of bulb options depending on the mood / spread of light you want. 4 The design is a simple classic format, won't date ! 5 The light itself is housed in a thick glass cube, this defuses the light beautifully and casts shadows on the wall as a feature. There is no front baffle like most modern wall lights, this means it will light the area as well as create a feature on the wall. 6 They do a full matching range, wall lights, ceiling lights, garden bollards etc.. 7 The can work off a standard electrical system or a Lutron based scene set control if required.
