Narrow bathroom layout inspiration

We’d like to redo our bathroom, but due to the narrow width of the room, it is proving difficult to find a layout that could work. Existing photo from Rightmove and a sketch of the room are below.

The existing shower is approx 600mm internal width, due to the location of the door. Ideally we would have a full size standalone shower, but space is limited.

I had initially considered placing a full length tub where the existing shower is, but narrow baths are hard to find, and might be more annoying than a decent 1500 length bath across the window?

Any suggestions?

I would edit out the bath and relocate a full size shower in the back. However, having a bath and/or shower is personal preference. The shower you have is too tight to even use practically:

My bathroom is the same width, but not as long, and in need of updating. But I currently have a full length bath that's only 67cm wide next to the door. No idea where it came from. I'd be interested to see what you decide. I'm considering converting my smallest bedroom into a bathroom, then my bathroom can become an ensuite, or maybe a utility/cloakroom (in bungalow).

Hi. I'm a bit confused, have you bought the vanity and are looking to paint it? Is the rest of the bathroom fitted as you could add brass or copper taps for instance with a matching mirror? Accessories will also warm it. I like a little wooden stool in a bathroom which you can add accessories to i.e. A candle, natural sponge, flannel etc which has some texture. A plant on the window sill if you have one and then nice accessories for the sink and either some coloured towels or I like hammam ones. I've found a couple of pics but they may not post as houzz has issues :( These are using deep rich colours which may bring the cabinet towards you a little. A darker top for the vanity would also work

Since you won't be able to stand back and admire the fireplace I would have the fireplace out and remove the chimney breast to give more room. This is likely the time to improve the insulation. I might add a velux for additional light. I think that the size of the Shower room on your plan is fine- in my opinion the room need only be bigger if you want a bath or a large vanity. I think the basin needs to move to a wall without a window to allow a mirror. If you were in America you would have a closet beyond the bathroom. I prefer your layout but you may want to consider it. Unless you particularly want the wardrobe space you might consider what else the space could be used for. You could have a laundry area or a study, or a wet bar, or a library.....

One needn't necessarily "compromise" between bath and shower here; they're not entirely trivial to find but a small number of manufacturers make _square_ (or at least, near-square / wide) shaped bathtubs (Japanese soaking tub style) at about 120cm width. I've found: https://www.livinghouse.co.uk/acatalog/square-lounge-bath.html https://www.omnitub.co.uk/products/omnitub-duo-plus Such make a very luxurious bath (if money's no object, even a whirlpool / steam shower setting) while also providing more than ample space for great showering. Yes, you'd probably need to have some small steps built to enter the bath. And a concern would only be whether the floor is strong enough (when used as a bath, it makes a difference whether there's 300l or 150l water in the tub). Diagonally-installed corner baths may also be an option (quite a bit cheaper), something like: https://victoriaplum.com/product/orchard-wharfe-corner-bath-1200-x-1200 which would also allow a better shower experience than a 70cm-wide standard bath. Not as deep as a soaking tub / wouldn't need steps. If going for something like that, I would actually "box-off" the corner and turn it into shelving for storage, so the bath turns into a bit of an "enclosed niche", something like: I wouldn't go for a freestanding bathtub; the narrow spaces would make it challenging to clean.

I would keep the layout the same other than moving the loo over an inch so it sits central to the window. It doesn’t look as if a shower bath would fit but a glass shower screen would also make the room feel bigger. Perhaps a heated towel rail at the other end of the bath? If its in budget perhaps a mirrored cabinet over over the sink wall to wall? Wall hung taps would also give a larger sink or perhaps taps to the side? You could choose a rectified tile for the walls so as to have minimal grout lines and have little contrast with the wall paint so it feels bigger. The ceiling pictured is very dark but iwonderif something darker than the walls would work?!

I love the idea of the shower across the window, but as we have young children, I really want to keep the bath. If we drop anything, I suppose it needs to be the separate shower as we can compromise with a shower/bath.

Strangely, all our neighbours have full size baths and separate showers in the same room, but I can only imagine that either their rooms are slightly bigger than ours, or they are putting up with squeezing between items.

Having browsed a few too many design pages, I’m really taken with the bath being inside the shower enclosure - something like the screenshot below

Add shutters to the window if you do this - as most other window coverings won’t protect your modesty as well as fully closed shutters would. ( not suggesting this if you don’t have the bath there to separate shower from window )

Consider swapping the door for a narrower one to create a little more space
