Interior wall dilemma
Hello all
I really need some ideas for the wall that connects a dark hallway and the living room. We had the glass blocks added about 10 years ago now and it is looking very dated.
We need to introduce as much light as possible so was thinking about adding another door but changing them to partly glazed however as we have a large sofa the other side, the left hand door would always have to be closed which seems pointless so have now discarded that idea.
I then thought about removing the existing door and taking out the bricks to open up the space completely but again have the sofa issue and also as we don’t have any radiators in the living area, only a gas fire, thought it would make it too cold.
My third option is to remove the blocks, have a solid wall on the lower half and a glazed area on the upper half but again am nervous about it looking dated.
I am really struggling with this one and so would really welcome some design advice...and if anyone could suggest a good colour scheme to go with chocolate brown leather sofas then that would also be a bonus!

There's nothing wrong with both options in my opinion if cleverly designed (full height glass & half wall), even if there's a sofa there - check the images below - the only issue would be the cost of these, as the building control might ask you to have them fire rated. Hopefully that wall is not load bearing (most likely it is not).
If you're having some specific product in mind ask the supplier to produce a 3D visual, as some of them can include this in their services.Hope this helps.

Some ideas here for you. It might be a case of getting a builder in for quotes removing the brick wall and adding a beam to support wall above. And having glass wall installed. May be worth contact upvc installers to see if they can do a upvc wall with black/grey frames etc. It will look lovely I reckon.

Now colours that I think would look lovely with your blue curtains are the soft pastels - green, pink and pale yellow, but you want a deep cosy colour so let’s move on! I’m a little bit obsessed with dirty pinks at the moment, a world away from Barbie pink so don’t panic. Colours like F&B Setting Plaster or Little Greene’s Dorchester Pink, or Blush which is much darker and cosier. Comments (6)For your information, F&B Skimming stone has a Lightness of 85.25 (out of a 100). A Chroma of 6.154, which indicates it is a near neutral. And a Hue Angle of 88.21° So it sits close to the centre of the Yellow Hue Family. Useful if you need to partner it with other near neutrals or even more colourful colours. You can use the geometry of the Wheel to create harmonies. Were you to find that Skimming Stone felt a little to yellow next to your pinkish brick, the strategy would be to find something with a similar Lightness & Chroma, but move the Hue Angle anti-clockwise nearer towards the Yellow-Red Hue Family. Comments (15)Hello madelainev What a great room ? :) At the moment you have a calming space very colour complimenting each other. It looks like there is a reading area too where the two chairs are behind the large sofa. Are there shelves on that wall ? Looks like it needs zoning and blending in. I would say sometimes it is trial and era and what works for a family. But if you do not like it switch it around. The key question is what do you want this room to do ? A few questions? 1. Could you post another picture of the wall space where you are taking the picture? So that we see more of the space. 2 Do you have kids ? (what sort of age?) 3.Did you shop around for the woodburner ? £15K sounds a lot. It will not dominate unless you want it to be the focal point. 4. A wall cabinet does not need to take over a wall if it blends in, did you investigate this already were there any you liked at all ? It could be just floating shelves. 5. Do you need storage in this room ? 6. Colours, what colours are already in the room and what colours do you like ? Would you min pops of colour... on the wall are some images with a pop of blue possibly aqua ? Some thoughts : 1.You could hang sheer curtains to soften. There are ceiling rods or wires for this. 2. Move the dining table to behind the Large sofa is. So the front is the living TV area. Therefore more natural light when eating. (this assuming there is not a door there.) 3. Place the two winged chairs where the blue footstool is. Or the blue armchair and footstool together. There or on the opposite side. 4. Move the TV so that it is central. On the wall too. That would balance the room more. You could frame it so it looks like a picture. 5. Add more pictures, photo's to the wall. There are some amazing offers at the moment with only postage paid to get photos on canvas or a print in a frame. Add personal items too. grouped together on a shelf or on the TV cabinet. 6. With big windows / doors, utilize the view and natural light. If you get another sofa put it next to the long one facing in to the room by the windows /door. Behind that put your two winged chairs facing out wit ha poof or a coffee table and that could be your "reading" area. 7. Group the plants together nearer the light or at the corner. So that it feels like you are bringing the garden in. Or next to the Sofa. Hang plants from the ceiling or on the wall. 8. A signature light or group of lights over will lift and an interest to the ceiling. And zone off the area. Adding a rug underneath with give do that too. 3 years agoHi Ellie, this is the living room at the moment, we are a bit stuck with where we can put the sofas due to size. The living room was a pale green before this colour but would like this room and the hallway to all tie in colour wise.

3 years agoThese show how much light a sun tunnel can bring in, upstairs landing with only other natural light coming up the stairs and a bathroom with no window.
