We are getting our interiors done now. It's a multi storey building with common pipes and drains. Many houses already have cockroaches. Should we get pest control done before moving in or should we do if we get any issues?
A year ago, I moved into the apartment I now live in. I wanted to move in some boxes, and I saw at least 20 cockroaches while putting all of the stuff in place. They were all over in the bathroom, in the kitchen, and in the living room.
I think you definitely should do it. When I was moving into my new apartment, I first called a pest control service to get rid of cockroaches and mice. And actually, it didn't take a lot of time, so soon I moved in. So, if I were you, I'd call the service before moving into a new apartment. Otherwise, you're going to have much more problems with pests unless you call a service. Then it will be harder for you and them to clean your house. So, I hope I've helped you. Waiting for your reply. BW
It’s a good question — in multi-story buildings with shared plumbing lines, roaches often spread before you ever unpack a box. As a general rule, it’s better to start clean than to wait for an active infestation.
Do an initial preventive treatment before move-in, focusing on kitchen/bath plumbing chases, drain lines, and wall voids.
Use non-repellent products in those concealed areas so any roaches already inside the structure don’t scatter.
Apply gel bait placements under sinks, behind cabinets, and near pipe penetrations to target German roaches early.
Seal cabinet gaps and utility openings while the unit is still empty — it’s much harder once furniture is in.
Set monitoring traps for the first 30–45 days so you’ll know if anything is drifting in from neighbors.
Coordinate with building management to confirm they’re maintaining routine common-area pest control; your unit alone can’t solve shared-line roach movement.
Doing this before you move in usually keeps things under control and prevents a much bigger headache later.
