What do you think should go in this space?

I am musing moving the blue chair to another room and putting a dressing table/desk in its place but I still want an accent chair. Originally I was going to put a large mirror on the side of the built in wardrobe and a piece of art on the wall next to it but I really want to maximise the space. What else could I do here? All suggestions gratefully received

Have you got room for matching bedside tables? Also a large piece of wall art over the bed might help to tie it all in. I like the chair, lovely colour. Perhaps turn the floor lamp round so it faces over the chair - a reading spot! Or even put it behind the chair in the corner. I think the trick is to fill the blank wall next to the chair, and a smaller picture on the adjacent wall in a similar colour to the chair. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply Saffy. The chair is moving as I am going to put a dressing table there and a floating bedside table on the other side as there's less room due to the built in wardrobe. Am in the process of painting the wardrobe a very pale grey and am really struggling with what to put in the space beside the wardrobe really as the blue chair is too big. I was thinking of another smaller accent chair and a piece of art above that but don't know what to place on the end of the wardrobe.

However, a bathroom on the second floor will demand a redefinition of the house hydraulics to make a better use of water, avoiding extra expending to the family who lives in there. Maybe, you should consider making a second bathroom on top of the other, and make two bedrooms (on 2nd floor) about the same size, and the extra space left from the long bedroom could be family living room with cushions, a hammock, and big windows (No wall separating it from the corridor, since it would just end on that living area).

So... managed to find time to discuss it late last night, and we definitely like the idea of being able to make bed 3 larger. I've taken it slightly further in some ways but less in others to try and minimise the cost hopefully as bf thinks that regardless of what we do, it'll end up being prohibitively expensive to re-organise upstairs. This plan would : Keep doorways off the landing to bed 2/3 the same as they are currently (I appreciate the benefits of moving them in terms of not having it right at the top of the stairs, however there's still room for a stair gate at the top of the stairs (should we ever need one), and has never been a problem for us since we've been here regardless of who's stayed (almost 6 years). Removing your study area - we have a separate office/mancave downstairs, and I always work at the dining table even when I had an office space if doing work at home, allowing us to have a bigger family bathroom (maybe a pocket door) with hopefully room for a bath and walk in shower? (as actually the 2 bathrooms we'd be joining are quite compact!) Still quite a small landing area, which I appreciate is useful for general circulation space, but we'd be reluctant to cut into bed 3 more than we have to, and there'd be just enough room I think to have a small window which would hopefully make it feel more airy at least. FYI the pink line I've added is where we get full height ceilings back, as the front half of bed 2/3 mostly have sloped ceilings, except for where the dormers are, but they drop to about waist height at the front. The back wall of the ensuite would be the current back wall of the ensuite again to help reduce costs... Ideally I'd have preferred to creep it forward an extra 10-20cm to give that room to bed 3, however I think for such a small distance it's probably not worth having to knock down, and build another wall. What do people think? ? Obviously would still need to ask builders re cost etc and bf thinks I'm getting hopes up and it'll cost too much... (Anyone got any rough thoughts how much it might be?) but I did point out we could fit most of the bathroom stuff at a later date.

Dear Ms England. Just saw the layout of your kitchen. It's up to you as to whether you want to have an integrated Fridge / Freezer [ 50 / 50 or 70 /30 ] unit or a free standing one. I personally think that you should lay out your kitchen as follows : You start from the steps going down with the Fridge / Freezer unit, whether free standing or integrated unit, then the oven and Microwave tall unit, then work top, then the hob [ allow for a 600 mm 5 rings burners, then equal work top, then the sink with drainer. It is better for the sink to be over looking the garden. You should also change the toilet to fixed to the external wall and the wash-hand basin and cabinet to be fixed to the wall between the toilet and store. iIf possible you should go for a 3 panel bi-folding doors rather that sliding doors. It's worth to incorporate a 1340 x 1380 mm Velux Integra Electric window over the Dining area which will bring more lifgt to the Living Room beyond, I assumed. You can reduce the floor to ceiling height of the kitchen to 2400mm or 2600 mm and it will save you on the cost of your kitchen unit. otherwise you will need a step ladder to get to the top shelves of the cupboards above the work top. For the kitchen worktop, you can use quartz or granite as solid hardwood get affected by water stains over time and need to be sanded down and sealed at regular interval. Hi!

FIrstly - i LOVE the colour of that chimney breast wall!!

I think you could be right on looking for an accent chair under there, or potentially a leaning thin mirror? With an antique brass sort of framing to it, to tie in a couple of the accessories I can see in the room already! A mirror would also reflect the colour of the bedding/statement wall, so help to carry the colour over to that side of the room as well!

Then my suggestion would be to look under more 'dining' style accent chairs (Made.com do some bright velvet styles with arms etc) that could tuck into your dressing table area!

Hi Claire, thanks for your reply-the colour is an accident made up of tester pots which were just enough to cover the chimney breast! Yes, I've toyed with the mirror on the wall and it does indeed reflect the chimney breast when seated on the blue chair and I like that but the light from the window reflects on the mirror and you can't see properly. I've now decided to put a mirror on one of the inside wardrobe doors. Nothing in the room is permanent really, except for the shutters and so can be moved to other rooms and it is still under construction so to speak!

What about a small table, perhaps a circular one with ornaments, vase of flowers or a plant and picture or mirror over that? That might fill the space nicely.
