Wow, you have done a great job already with your kitchen. You have had so many great ideas re. the wall there isn't anything on that I could add. To solve the problem of the chairs hitting the wall I would either opt for a huge floor to ceiling mirror which would encourage one and all to be careful when leaving their seat or my preferred option would be to replace the chairs on that side with a bench. I'd cover the bench in either shabby chic cushions or a deer or sheepskin rug for comfort and I'd play with table decor. Get chair covers for the redundant chairs and use them in the bedrooms - one in each corner. Then for formal dinner parties or for when the table is extended you simply remove the covers and add them to the table and you can still use the bench if the table is extended.

French Grey is a lovely colour, I'd live with it for a while and the rug colour may be skewing it a little. I'd add a Roman blind to soften things, style it up a bit and see how you go. On the rug front - I think they are fine in a kitchen. Kitchens often had rugs but now it's frowned upon for some reason but they seem to be making a come-back I'm pleased to say as they add a lovely, comfortable homely feel. Find something washable, ideally a pattern, use underlay to anchor/stick it down if you're worried about slips and trips (depends on weight of rug). Size-wise, don't run it too close to units to avoid worst spills etc. The new synthetic indoor/outdoor rugs will work well or a washable cotton.

I think an in-frame kitchen looks better in a large kitchen as all the extra lines from the frames and doors can look too busy in a smaller room. Also for practicality you need wider units as you lose so much space due to the width of the frames so 300 wide units are reduced to only a 260 door. The cost of the doors is usually quite a bit more as there's more to them, installation is going to cost more as there's more items to fit and the number of accessories available is less. One other thing with living with an in-frame kitchen is keeping the insides clean, instead of just being able to give the inside of the cupboard a quick wipe down you have the lip of the frame to contend with. We have our cabinets made so the bottom of the frame is in line with the bottom shelf of the cupboard to get around this. Many thanks Lifestyle Kitchens
