Five New Washbasins and The Bonfire of the 'Vanities' OR upcycle?
Comments (32)Hello Ro Ro, Just a little thought here.. you can create a whole range of storage that doesn't involve having something under the sink! Or you could have a back to wall floating unit.. Small and rectangular.. It does not have to look like they do now.. Also with certain taps you do need to look at the water pressure, if you want aerated taps etc.. If your taps have a good flow I am sure you won't have a problem.. :))...See MoreAntique mirrors - hot or not?
Comments (13)Decorating with Vintage Mirrors They may say it`s all smoke & mirrors but mirrors really do offer brilliant solutions to a wide range of interior design problems. Unlike art or photography, which people can have opinions about, no one objects to a mirror. This elegant vintage console table with matching mirror is attributed to Pierre Cardin. Not only timeless, mirrors are also easy to coordinate. Reflecting their surroundings, they go with everything. Well-placed mirrors can make dark spaces seem lighter, tight spaces feel larger and dull spaces shinier. They can double the pleasure of a beautiful view, deflect attention from an unsightly one and add glamour without being gaudy. Nothing compares to the flattering illumination from a vintage backlit mirror. This Lucite oval illuminated wall mirror by Erco is from the 1970`s. Below this 1970`s illumintate wall mirror by German maker Hillebrand, is a playful re-interpretation of the backlit mirrors from Hollywood`s Golden Age. With all the `dressing room` glamour it is also very sculptural as the Lucite frame curves outwards from the wall. When used in a bathroom an illuminated mirror has the unexpected advantaged of preventing the mirror surface steaming up. An illuminated mirror is a clever alternative choice for a bedroom, entrance hall, living room or bathroom. The subtle indirect light from this mirror works well as ambiance lighting for the living room. A group of mismatched, decorative vintage mirrors can be just as interesting as a collection of art. When displaying a collection of photos, designers recommend unifying them by coordinating the frames. But with a collection of mirrors, the reflective surface is the unifying component. This gives more choice so the frames can be varied in size, style & shape. A wall mirror in the entryway provides the perfect place to give yourself a quick check before heading out. This 1970`s console table & mirror are attributed to Italian Designer Willy Rizzo. The unique combination of quality polished brass & chrome with bevelled glass & mirror work together for a rich design. Comments (21)Saw an article on Apartment Therapy talking about mirrored splashbacks recently. Had some lovely photos featured, I personally preferred the options where the glass is raised up from the hob slightly. Could you maybe get a piece of the upstand cut to fill the gap? Also having it 'framed' by wall either side looks better to me than it spanning the whole space. I've mocked it up to extractor fan level and to ceiling level (I've guesstimated the tile scale but hope it gives you the idea). Personally I prefer the latter in this space as the proportions look better. http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/mirror-backsplash-ideas-that-arent-from-the-70s-or-80s-248551...See MoreAntique mirror over fireplace mantel
Comments (7)As an alternative you could just mirror the alcoves and have art over the fire. It may not need to be toughened then. If you want it over the mantle I'd just have a mirror rather than go the whole width of the chimney breast if that's what you meant...See MoreSonia
