Can this work - 1100mm width bathroom!?

In the floor plan you can see a 700mm x 1700mm bath. That will leave just 400mm gap between the wall and the bath. That is pretty narrow. Can anyone suggest another layout in this space?

Comments (11)@ManAboutTheHouse Thanks got the comment. I agree about moving the staircase, that would complicate things. There isn't standing height under the current (stupid) staircase, so I don't think we could put a toilet under there as it is. We're pretty sure the drain runs from the back of the house down the porch side, but obviously we need to confirm this. Current porch extends out 1.02m, wouldn't want an extension to come out any further than this because we'd like to keep the 80cm side access to the garden. It's 2.36m wide and we could go up to another 2m either way, giving us at least 6m, if we wanted. I'll attach a google earth image, so you can see the house in its surroundings. The deeds say we have to maintain the green landscaping to the front, so that's a no go area. Back garden is tiny, so also a no go area....See Moredoes this bathroom layout/design work?
Comments (28)Being competely honest I don’t think this will work too well in real life. The gaps down the side of and behind the bath will be constantly damp and prone to mould unless you get down on your knees and dry those bits after every shower.. and I suspect quite a high risk of floor leaks too as it will have to be a wetroom floor but will have the added weight and movement of a large (sometimes full) bath on top... The gap between sink and boiler is going to feel very tight when you come in (although moving the wall will help a bit, but still think it won’t be ideal). And it will all feel quite crowded especially if you have crittal breaking it all up. In your shoes I would either 1) pay to move the boiler, then you can have it all, or 2) have a shower over bath, or 3) accept having a small shower or small bath so you can fit it all in. For example you could have a small shower cubicle next to the boiler, then loo between shower and bath and sink opposite loo - still a bit of a squeeze but much better. Or you could consider those baths which are short but deep for a good soak in a more seated position. If you got a corner one like the Orbit you could put the bath in back left corner, loo in back right and then you’d have space for a decent shower by the boiler....See MorePlease can I have some opinions on decorating my bathroom?

I think I now have my heart set on the Hague blue (I was looking at ‘midnight blue’ ideas before my post and this colour I just love so thanks for this idea!). I also definitely agree I need a new bath panel so have been looking at the marine ply online and think it’s a great idea to paint this the Hague blue too. I like the idea of a small shower caddy for our main shower products and make room in our current storage unit for other items. I have also thought storing the bath toys in the children’s room until needed and then store away again. Which colour towels and bath mat should I get to match this idea? Grey? Comments (17)Congrats on your new home! The cheapest option is to update the rail and add a new shower curtain- or a shower blind as previously suggested. All other options are costly. I know as I have just researched the same problem for a house I have just renovated! L shaped glass screens are not standard so are costly to purchase. I would suggest rather than spending the money on a costly alternative, spend the money on doing up the bathroom which will add value. The current bathroom has a basic suite and wall/ floor tiles. If you renovate the bathroom you will get your money back and probably a bit more depending on where the house is. Replace the suite with something new- basic white suite costs about £450 including taps and keep everything in the same place so cheaper to replumb. The basic wall tiles, if in good order, you could re-grout with a coloured grout. Grey is the obvious option but there are some great alternatives- red, blue or yellow for instance. Keep the shower curtain option and maybe move the shower fixing to the long wall and add a overhead shower head so the water goes down rather then outwards- if you know what I mean! You could lift the floor tiles and if laying on a flat surface, lay vinyl tiles which you can do yourself. B&Q have a lovely geometric design which I have used a couple of times and looks great- especially if you team with blue grout! Distract the eye of your potential viewers with great design and hopefully they will forget all about the shower- after all you bought it so others will too! Good luck! In the photo are the B&Q vinyl tiles I mentioned. On the walls are shower panels from Reco panels-not cheap but come in all sorts of designs and you can fit them yourself to the wall so avoiding the use of a tiler! 3 years agoAn alternative is to have an ensuite bathroom and have a shower room for the family. You could achieve this with just a minor change to your plan. Alternatively you could move the ensuite
