Are dark blue walls too dark for a dark bedroom with minimal light?
I have a guest bedroom that, has only a small window next to a fence so has minimal light. I want to paint it dark blue and make it dramatic and
cosy, or will it just be dismal? Im unsure whether to paint it white and have fresh colours to lighten it or embrace the darkness which is really what I would like to do. The one wall is going to be full mirrored wardrobes. (on the left)The door will be white and the carpet a neutral colour.

3 years agoI love strong colours but that window really is tiny. So I would either take a view that a deep colour is cozy and use it to frame lots of pale pictures, an oversized headboard and pale window dressing....
Or I would paint the room a white and add drama with a digital wallpaper on just one wall

Comments (5)Dear Claire, I'd choose wooden floors any day over carpeted floors as they're much more durable and give an airier feel, however if you end up agreeing with your husband on having the room carpeted I'd recommend a warm grey carpet like my design shows below: When it comes to a wooden floor a whitewashed look might look modern but could provide too harsh a contrast, instead I'd opt for a mid-tone warm grey or pale brown. Comments (1)Although not a neutral, a gorgeous deep mustard (or olive for a more neutral look) would look great with a dark wood floor whilst keeping a bright feel! Depends how brave you are and what your other furniture would be.. Will only really work with a large amount of natural light mind you (big windows or lots of them).. Comments (26)I would build things up in increments as every time you add something it changes the overall look. Get the walls sorted and have in mind the flooring, then when all that is working think about the blinds. Looking at the images above they are quite small rooms and as they have lots of texture going on the colour is dark and desaturated. 3 years agoIt could work and I think if you keep the furniture white to lift it, with white bedding and accessories it stops it seeming too dark. Or you could do a navy wall behind the bed and keep the rest light? Like this

3 years agoIf you’re looking for dark blues, look at Craig and Rose’s Payne’s Grey. Despite the name it is actually the most beautiful shade of deep blue with a hint of grey. I spent months agonising over blues but then got fed up in lockdown and got the Payne’s Grey, despite worrying that it would be too grey for such a dark corner. it is the perfect colour, and I’m looking forward to using it on walls elsewhere. It’s also usually cheaper than F&B and similar if not better quality.
