Door size

Hi there, could you please tell me roughly what width dimensions the opening is? We have a similar opening and are struggling to find a bifold door to suit. Ours is probably about 130cm wide. Thanks!

they where 2’3” doors made into bi folds
your width i think you would just fit 2’ wide doors in your opening

In a previous house we had 3x1m aluminium bi fold doors. All doors stacked outside to the right. I loved them but I think anything larger than 1m panels would have been too heavy and unwieldy. One of the panels was our back door and clipped onto the second door to secure it. But a glass panel of 1.2m is a big door to be opening on a windy day. I would go for the 4x 1m option. On a warm sunny day it will be lovely to have that large opening. Ours were SE facing and some days they would be open from 7 am to bedtime. We only had one issue with them. Sometimes in hot weather they would swell and be difficult to close until they cooled down. However I have never heard of this happening before.

That would be a lovely spot for French doors. Is there a reason you want a door and a smaller window? I think getting a reputable window and door company in to do the whole job would be easier and it will be done in a day. The only way to guess the cost is to get quotes in.

Hi Ellie, that's why I want the back door and the fixed window to match, in height/width, so not disjointed like you see. It was going to be completely taken out & french doors added. Now I'm planning that the door & 'window' to be side by side but with the soil stack part of the wall remaining in between, but one will be the back door the other fixed. The plan is to have them both just completely glazed not a half n half door like it is currently.

Hi @katlucy, thank you for your reply. You make a great observation about centralising the back door. Unfortunately not an option. Something I forgot to mention in my original post was that the back door leads to a outbuilding. Nevertheless the wall across the back door also contains a window and sink. In terms of the ideas mentioned. I’m becoming more inclined just to revert back to the original plan by blocking up the opening to the dining room, keeping the kitchen doorway and reopening the hall. It feels like the easiest decision for some slight improvement but doesn’t quite solve any problems. If we did just block off the kitchen doorway, kept an opening to dining room and reopened the hall access it would create 4 doors as such in the dining room and I’m not sure how I feel about that. It sounds like a lot in one room. Thanks
