Where to put the TV?!

Hello everyone

We’re in the process of planning a kitchen/living/dining extension and have come up with the (rough) layout attached. Our garden will boarder 2 sides of the extension as shown in the picture and, instead of increasing the cost to have an open corner in the top right we will have the minimum amount of brickwork possible to support that corner (a width of 3 bricks is it?!) with bi-folds adjoining the corner from both sides. It’s really important to me that when looking out from the extension the garden doesn’t appear to be 2 separate strips of land (one across the back and one to the side) so I wanted to be able to view both sides of the garden as a whole from this corner but this creates the issue of where to put the TV as ideally the living area would be facing the garden too. Can anyone suggest any ways of still having the living area facing the garden bi-fold corner but also having a placement for the TV?

I’m not sure of the look that you are going for, however Samsung have a gorgeous free-standing TV called the Serif. (Named because the side profile is of a letter I in serif font). You wouldn’t need a wall and you could move it around.

Thank you for the suggestion Sarah, slightly more than I’d want to spend on a TV but actually I suppose once you’ve added the cost of a TV unit to a normal TV you’re probably nearly there any way!!! :)

We have a unit, which completely envelops the whole TV, which means you can make it an attractive feature by putting nice objet d'art on and around it. You can't see any cables either!

Thank you so much for taking the time to do these detailed plans. You have certainly come up with some ideas that we had not thought about. In particular we wouldn't have thought about having a small sofa against that wall (we had thought the tv would be good here) but actually I think it feels nice to be facing the other way. I also like the piano and the bookcase being at the entrance and feels this would help separate the kitchen from the family room area and also be that I can hear my daughter play whilst I cook and pop round the corner to see her. We have only just created that large opening for the window as wanted as much sun in as possible (and in fact have just had it amended to make it larger so it didn't look so obviously like a garage conversion to us) - so I wouldn't be keen on the second idea of reducing the window size for the piano - but yes you are absolutely correct and we should have thought about furniture placement more than we did as the 15cm of wall to the left of the window has prevented me from running a nice long floor to ceiling bookcase along that wall which is disappointing - but still other areas to put it in. Luckily I can carry out your furniture arrangement as I placed 3 tv points so will see how it feels when we finally get finished. Thank you so much for these plans and the effort to achieve them!

I had these sofa custom built almost 3 1/2 years and we just moved from a 2 bedroom rental apartment to this house. I knew it was smaller living room and I didn't think the configuration would affect the setup. I was thinking of mounting the TV on a swivel corner above the snowman painting. Unless if there is a bracket that folds upward and downward to mount on the ceiling.

Have a look on their website though as the link is to the new 2020 model - they were selling off the 2019 model for £599 and had stock two days ago because I was tempted to buy one myself. The 2019 model still has great reviews!

Your requirement of making it look like a surrounding garden on both sides will only really work if you have a good depth of garden on both sides eg at least 10m or so. If your garden is not as deep it's unlikely to feel that way you want.
