Remodelling kitchen - where is it from?

Hello

We’re looking to extend the back of our house to create a kitchen/dining/family room. This will involve either a new kitchen or remodelling and potentially adding to the one we already have. I still love our current kitchen (it was installed by the previous owners only a couple of years ago) and it seems to be of a pretty high spec compared to some of the ones we’ve seen in showrooms recently so it seems a shame to go to the expense of getting rid of it and replacing it when there’s nothing wrong with it.

If we were to keep our current kitchen (pictured) we’d need to move some of the units and also potentially add to them to create an island. Can anyone suggest how we can tell where it was originally from as we’d probably need some more end boards and kick boards as one of them has warped due to a leaking fridge! We can’t ask the previous owners unfortunately.

Also, is it a viable option to remove and then reinstall a kitchen instead of having a new one?

Any help/suggestions greatly received!

If you think of what layout you are going for then you could use your existing units at the walls then new units for an island, not necessarily similar so you can go contrast.

End panels you can get, or can be made.

If the kitchen was supplied by a national company you might see the company name on the side of the drawer boxes or on the door hinge arms, also have a look to see if there's any manufacturing labels on the underneath of the drawers, on top of towers and wall units. If you have any local independant kitchen showrooms you could ask them if they recognise the kitchen.

Could try contacting the previous house owners.

Us?! :) In all seriousness, here is a huge choice of vertical radiators to buy online now but I would definitely recommend going with someone who has a showroom as this is an indicator of a commitment to longevity and product quality. To me it sounds like you will move as you don’t love the house (this was us a year ago- our home ticked every box but I just didn’t love it. We ended up moving). If you are considering moving then personally I would leave the layout as it is and save your money for your next house. If you are planning on making it your long term home then I’d do a side extension to really maximise its potential. Maybe talk to an estate agent about what would add value to help you development decide?

I think the layout needs improving anyway. The stove is very close to the corner, so I'd definitely want that moved more towards the right. Which means you'd have to have a narrow cabinet to the right of the stove. If it was my kitchen and wanted to do it on a budget, I'd check out Ikea or DIY kitchens. I'd probably go for tall cabinets along the wall across from the window. In those tall cabinets an integrated fridge freezer, microwave/oven and loads of storage. You could then lose the upper cabinets. I'd also want corner cabinets with clever pull out storage and drawers wherever possible. If you really, really, really want a breakfast bar, you could then have stools instead of a cabinet under the countertop, where the microwave and freezer/fridge (?) are now.

I like your idea! It would be nice to increase the living room size, unfortunately the dead end corridor/new ktichen area is to narrow to fit in a whole kitchen, without feeling too small. I am on the other hand considering moving the "L" wall closer to the entrance as, but as you drawed, maybe it would be nicer to just remove it? Except, it would be nice to have a sence of an entrance, and not just "walking straight into" the livingroom, or what do you think?

It looks to me like a beech 5 piece shaker style door. Our supplier no longer offers beech doors as standard off the shelf as they are no longer sought after (handleless, gloss and super matt seem to be most popular for our area) but they are available Made to Order. So yes you can get them. You just need to find a local supplier. I doubt you’ll get to see a sample if they’re not standard stock so it might be a case of chancing it for a close up on colour but the design in beech is available, as are all end panels.

I would definitely do contrast, like suggested already, make your island a real statement
