What can I do to update/change color of this stone?
I have the same stone under the bar. It must have been installed by novice as there are many gaps. It’s placed over an older ugly red brick. Sorry for the mess but we are squeezed into basement during upstairs remodel. I want to use gray floors down here.

3 years agoThe colour’s quite nice, just the fireplace size is overwhelming. You can paint brick with a whitewash which will make it less in your face.

Comments (8)No problem - I'm totally with you on the mediterranean style! Of course, mixing and matching would work great in your space. Maybe consider dark tiles and modern furniture with some vibrant greenery to lift the space. If you feel like brightening up the area, you could go for colourful tiling or if you would like a softer feel - add some natural materials (wooden furniture for example). Comments (10)Using a hot works gas torch sounds a bit hazardous and not the safest way of cleaning stonework. Not sure the gas torch would do the plastic cables any favours either, you'd have no internet or tv for a while. An old fashioned new wire brush is probably all that's required, a soft grade wire, not a really hard wire as this will stop too much of the stone surface being ground off. Test on a small inconspicuous patch first and see how it looks, if it looks good then do the rest of the wall. Try not to brush out the mortar though. Don't use a wire brush that has got wet and then got rusty otherwise you may end up creating rusty streak marks. Consider a professionally erected scaffold tower for the high level pieces of walling. Hard work and time consuming but it might work. You can also buy stone cleaner washes which are effectively mild acid washes that take off the surface impurities. Comments (25)I have terracotta walls in my sitting room and plan to have either peacock or green sofas so we are on the same page! I am struggling a little with the curve - because I love straight lines - but the way it looks in the room you have accessorised shows it doesn't need to be changed. With the accessories I'd be bolder and put something large behind the sofa, not several pictures making a gallery wall - it looks a bit fussy. Or turn the whole wall into a gallery wall with some bigger pictures and some less big. Can you have a rectangular coffee table, too - rather than round? And the same with the rug - a rectangular one would be better I suspect. Overall, though, my view is stick with the colours! 3 years agoA couple of years ago this would have screamed 'demolish ' to me but perhaps because of the amount of USA design shows I watch (not bragging 🤦♀️! ) these are becoming increasingly sought after again. I'm with E D on the mid century vibe working well as the bar stools show.
My concern would be because it hasn't been installed well but, if its safe, it could be pointed up.Hope you don't mind me saying that the ceiling would be what I'd be looking to change before considering the fire and bar areas .
